Can that silver thing leak oil?
I just finished my 3vz conversion from a 22re and fired it up...runs good, sounds good. So when I go to check for leaks, no coolant leaks, but when I look under the truck I see oil dripping about a drip per second. It seems to be coming from behind the round silver thing on the driver side of the block, the one that has coolant hoses going to it. Can this leak oil? And what is it called that way I know what parts to go buy to make it stop leaking?

Some pics of this silver thing would help us to see your problem.......
ya pics will help alot
the round silver thing is probably the factory oil cooler
OK that would explain why it leaks oil, but has coolant running throuh it. To cool the oil that passes through from the oil galley. Its dark and rainy here so I can't get a pic up. But its about the size of a baseball, has a large bolt that runs through it and the water pump has a rubber tube that connects to it. On the top of it I can see another rubber line coming from it that probably returns the coolant to the block. What is it called?
well someone suggested its your oil cooler so im gonna have to go with.. oil cooler
yup its the oil cooler mine went tits up on my motor, dealer wants almost 500 for a new one.
or you can go to autozone get a cooler for anything and reroute the bad boy makes it easy and simple plus you can make go behind the front grill and get rid of the coolant lines going to it just a though and its way cheaper

I just redid the O-rings on mine. If you have the 2wd version then you need 2 O-rings.

So the o-rings are in-stock at the parts store? They aren't a dealer item?

http://personal.utulsa.edu/~nathan-buchanan/93fsm/engine/119oilcoole.pdf On the 4x4, I found 2 o-rings and also a steel/rubber washer for the center bolt. I would hit up the dealer, but you may be able to get them elswhere. |
GDR--how much did the dealer charge you?
Called th elocal dealer and believe itor not they had them in stock!! 10 bucks plus tax, but what do you expect for a direct dealer item.?
ill play devils advocate, but why on earth would you put a 3vze in place of a 22re?

hey guys, just had my head gasket replaced, and now i have a serious oil leak on the drivers side of the engine, it doesnt seem to be from the rocker cover, any clues what it could be, like whats between the sump and the rocker that could possibly leak oil, im taking it back to the mechanics tomorrow, to get them to fix it. Just wanted to know if any of u guys had any suggestion on what it could be. would help a bunch, oh its a 3vz-e engine by the way lol.
More than likely it is the rocker cover. The only other gasket on the block between the rocker and the oil pan (sump) is a head gasket.
Your mechanic will inspect it and let ya know. |
