Can anyone reccomend a shop?
 

Hi Eveyone,

I want to get my 92 Pickup Ex-cab undercoated and want to know if anyone would reccomend a shop in my area. I live near Wilmington, DE. I just don't know if one place is better than another.

I am also looking to find a reputable repair shop that I can take my truck to with confidence. I try to do most things myself but it's my daily driver and I've learned that some jobs are better left to the pros until I get a second vehicle.

I'm not sure how many users we have over in Delaware, not sure how much of a response you'll get. You might also want to ask you co-workers, neighbors, family, etc. on what shop they go to. Don't necessarily ask which gave the best deal. The best "deal" I got on a job ended up almost costing me a new engine. You're looking for a shop that does it's best and is willing to correct a mistake if they do make one.

Do not undercoat! It will only catch and hold junk and cause more problems later. Scrape off the loose rust with a wire brush and get yourself a can of rustoleum rust converter and then a can of satin black and go to town.

Does anyone agree? No offense CJM , I was under the impression that undercoating is a good way to go. The roads are salted pretty heavily here.

I agree with him. Any shop youu take it to....is gonna tell you blah blah blah...and the second you leave they are going to coat over whatever is there....rust, mud, grease. It will look pretty and nice. Then one day your truck will break in half on the lift.

The only way to do this is yourself if you want a good job.

Here's what you do.

Power wash underside of truck.
Get inside the frame sealer from eastwood. look it up. comes with a nozzle that reaches in frame and sprays 360 degrees. Coat the crap out of the inside everywhere you can. Utilize holes in frame to your advantage.

Wire brush...wire wheel the frame as best as you can. get everything loose off.

get a gallon of metal ready. spray the outside of frame with it....liberally.

coat frame with brush and por15 look it up.


enjoy a frame for years.

It is nasty....dirty....gruesome work. No one wants to do it. Its the worst job ever.

No shop will do a decent job. The tech assigned this will hate you and do a half butt job.

Prepare to bust your butt.....get ripped off....or let it rot away.

Sure am glad they don't salt the roads out here in California! They just use sand if it's that bad, since all the salt runoff in the streams would harm the farmlands.

Ah yes, it is as it was and always will be: if you want something done right, do it yourself. I appeciate the advice fellas!

Also, Delaware could take a page out of California's book on the whole salt/sand thing. Much of the county I live in is wetlands, I can only imagine what the salt is doing to that.
