Can anyone identify these Distributors?
The first photo shows both distributors, the longer shaft cam out of my 1992 4Runner, the shorter came out of an engine I bought as a 95 vze.
the pin connections are different, how can I connect the 95 dist to the 92 wiring?

Just why are you changing things??
Is the shaft snapped off the one that is shorter other wise it is not going to work for you
unless things changed that much in two years
I will admit I am not a big fan of the 3.0 so my hands on is limited to pulling them out and scrapping them
Should be a simple matter to get the pin outs of both distributors and wire up to whatever plug you need to use
If that is indeed out of a 95 3.0 it might be simple to just change out the bad parts in yours with the possible good parts you bought
I know I have the EWD for the 92 someone must have it for the 95

The long shaft came in my '92, it won't fit in the engine I've been rebuilding, too long.
the short shaft was in a doner engine I got with my '95.
the electrical connection in my 92 won't work with the 95.
still with me Wyoming?
How do I modify the 92 connector to work with the 95 distributor?

Just a simple matter to find the male plug off a 95 engine harness that the harness is already cut apart .
Then it might be possible to even buy a new plug and just repin that to work.
Look at both the schematics and wire the 95 plug to match up with your 92 harness
Now unless the ignition systems have changed that much between 92 to 95 to not be compatible .
Something is really strange unless you have just typed things wrong .
The short shaft distributor has the plug shown in my 94 EWD 4 pin flat black.
the 92 has the same style plug but gray per the 92 EWD
Not having the 95 EWD I can`t match up the square 4 pin gray plug
The joys of working on older Toyota vehicle when so often one can find interesting parts of unknown vintage
About the only thing that might shed some light is matching the ECU/ ECM that is in the vehicle
We can only hope someone else can shed more light

The one in the 2nd photo I can clearly see the pickup and such is removable, is the other the same way with a similar bolt/screw locations? Might be able to just swap the guts assuming both are good.
Sadly I don't have the 4Runner EWD's but I do have 90-92 pickup and 93-98 t100. Below is the pin out of the inline 4 pin connector for a 92 pickup 3.0L. Pretty sure the number system is left to right for female plugs and the opposite for the male plugs.

It looks like both are basically the same besides the extra shaft length. Maybe see if the shafts interchange, or see about shortening the shaft. If I had the part number for the connectors (not sure how people find that info), I could make you up an adapter assuming electronically they function the same.
I looked up the plug on a 90 and 91 pickup 3.0L, and it has the 2 by 2 plug in dark gray. Pinout is slightly different or the wire diagrams have a mistake.

Based on the wire diagrams I looked at, sounds like the 95 engine is actually an older engine like an 89-91ish.
Anyway, the signals are labeled the same and use the same colors, so it seems suggestive that electronically they function the same (like most things toyota it seems like).
Conversion (need to check male vs female pinout orders to be sure on the 1 by 4 connector)
1x4 -> 2x2 connector
NE: 1 white -> 1 white
G1: 2 red -> 2 red
IG-: 4 green-> 3 green
G2: 3 black -> 4 black
G1 and G2 are the pickup coil for crankshaft position
NE is for rpm
There is no mention of IG-, I suspect it relates to NE or is just basically a ground wire for the signals.
Descriptions and diag tests match both versions of the plug so I'd think they function the same.
Probably best to check the 4runner EWD's to validate the pinouts, but I don't see 4runner vs pickup being different.
Good luck!

Many thanks atc......
I added a pic of the short dist, this one fits the head of the rebuild, went to a U-pick yesterday and found a plug from a '90 4Runner that fits, so I guess I'll re-work it to fit....thanks YotaTech.........you came thru again
I really don't know what year the rebuild is, will the serial number tell me?

I now have the engine back in the '92 4Runner, bolted to trans, starter in, next is motor mounts......
I found a distributor connector from a 1990 4Runner, 3.0, that will connect to the distributor that fits these heads......
we will see.
"It ain't broke, until we can't fix it!!!!!!"
