cab swap?

Alright so how hard would it be? Does it matter if it's off a 2wd should it be a 5spd cab like mine??? How long would it take and what kinda shop could do it? Any info on this would be greatly appreciated just curious if it would be better to go that route then to fix the cab I have

your talking about a junkyard carb swap? any 22r carb will fit doesent matter on 2wd or 4wd, rebuilding a carb is fairly cheap if you do it yourself but their notoriously hard to dial in, not sure on shop costs but just to swap a carb out i would say they have to charge their min fee 75 bucks or so, shouldent take longer than an hour to do it,

i think he said cab, not carb

yoterr 09-19-2009 10:15 AM

ahahha nice one, i didint even see that, wow im retarded....on that note i think even the 2wd's have a hole cut in the floor but im not sure, and if they didint, a few min with a sawzall and you would have it...as far as shops....no name brand ones will do it, but if you can find a smaller 4x4 shop maybe..but i think its illegal?:ignore:

hmm i donno i would say so too cause it would have a different vin!! and yeah i ment cab on carb! lol sorry

peow130 09-19-2009 02:24 PM

well, you could take the vin off your cab and put it on the new one you get.

People switch cabs where I am at all the time. you just switch over the door and dash plates when you do. I have considered doing this on my truck (cab has some rust on the floorboards, and dents on the roof) due to the fact there are lots of clean, rust free cabs off 2wd trucks.

yeah, is it time consuming? how much you figure cdn it would cost for someone to swap one?? i have no idea how to do it and don't really wanna attempt it myself! i found a 2wd ext cab pretty much identical to mine except auto, but where mine is rotted to nothing left (passenger rear cab mount) is still mint! i donno about the rest of the floor but i'm wondering if it would be cheaper to replace the cab or repair my cab now?? my floor is pretty ripe on the drivers side up to the center tunnel and at the front of both floor pans, (previous owner already half assed patches in it), rockers and that spot in the back by the cab mount on the passenger side, now the drivers side rear cab mount is mint along with most of the center of the floor, my uncle is a bodyman and has quoted me $1000 to fix the floor just wondering if it would be more practical to replace the cab with a better shape one or repair the one i have??

92_pickup_22re 09-19-2009 03:22 PM

also! forgot to mention, my truck has a box on it from a 97 tacoma, would a 97 tacoma cab also fit on my frame?? and what about front end body panels?? could i in theroy put a 97 body on a 92 frame? i think that would be pretty kool! if i decide to do the cab swap

92_pickup_22re 09-19-2009 03:23 PM

but then again i kinda like the front end of the older style trucks hmmm

Just go with the same year cab, that way all the stuff from your old cab will drop right in without any effort.
