A/C switch problem.

Good morning, I have a 1987 22re 4runner with an A/C problem. The system is charged and at proper pressure and cools well when 12 volts are applied to the compressor plug in the engine compartment. There was no power to the compressor through the dash switch. The 10 amp fuse was good but the resistor on the dash switch was blown. I replacd the switch with a new one from Toyota, the resistor was different (looking) on the new switch. After installing the new switch, the compressor engaged, the idle increased and the system cooled. Once. Then the resistor blew again. Does anyone have an idea as to what is blowing the resistors? Thanks. Mike

is your alternator putting out too much? this happened on my 87 yesterday. just had finished charging the AC and then the alternator went out at THAT EXACT MOMENT, causing the AC fuse to blow. so it conveniently made it seem like we had screwed something up.

I get just over 12 volts at the hot lead that the switch pulgs in to. The 10 amp fuse does not blow, just the resistor. No other electrical problems. Thanks for the reply. Mike

Same Prob

Did the dash switch light up even thought the resistor was blown? I am having the somewhat of the same problem with my A/C.
