buying 35's, I blame Bigblue....

Well I told myself when I started the build on my 89 4runner that all I'd ever need were 31's and a rear locker. From reading several posts and wheeling my butt off I've come to learn something.......

I need bigger tires and deeper gears. Period.

I'm tired of dragging my diffs over rocks and tired of beating the crap out of my Budbuilt T-case plate.

So with that in mind and pictures of Bigblues rig lurking in the background I've made a decision. I've already set money aside for my rear disc conversion and the driveline E brake and now I've put money on the forefront for a set of 35/12.50/15's, a new set of wheels, gears (5.29) and a pair of Aussie lockers. Jesus I hate to drop almost 2500$ into a 1500$ rig but the time has come.

Blue I blame you and I'll be driving north when this is done. You had better have a trail or two and a fishing spot or three ready. Don't make me drag you to the fishing spot with a tow strap because I will! :nono:

haha nice, I thought back in the day my 31's were hot stuff..
But nawww..
Dragging the diff is old news pal :P

Nothing other than what I've already done.

waskillywabbit 07-05-2009 06:25 AM

This is how it starts.

I went 285/75/16 then 315/75/16 then 35/12.50/15 then 37/12.50/15 then 39.5/13.50/15 and already contemplating 42s. :hillbill:

Man I am trying so hard not to get that deep into it.

I'll stop at 35's. Really.:safari:

Junkers, I totally understand what you are saying. I bought my pick-up for 2500 and it was stock. I thought its cool I will just put a bracket lift and some 33s and that is all that I am gonna do to it.

Warn bumper with winch 1000
IFS lift 800
33's Toyo 1100
then I needed new gears in the rear because mine exploded for some reason.. ok 700 for new 4.56s and a Detroit...

So after wheeling it and seeing that I am not able to go places that my friends can I decide to do an SAS

3100 after the kit front and rear, SFA and rebuild kits, locker for the front and new 4.88s for both front a rear....

So this week I am going on a Rubicon trip with some friends. I thought to myself, I can do it on 33's but do I really want to... Yeah... well... I have 35's on order and get them Thursday......

I fell your pain and this is a very expensensive and addicting hobby.

I have a problem when it comes to anything machnical, I love to take it apart and build it better and stronger... it hurts my wallet..... but it is relaxing..... i guess you can say it like a type therapy. I have a bad day... gone into the garage... have a fight with the wife.. gone into the garage.

Laterz

Go for it. I have only had my 33s for about 3 weeks and they already look small. Sure glad I skipped the whole 31 phase because I really would have been disappointed.

I would go with 4.88's. That way you won't be tempted to go bigger!! LOL! I'm thinking sliders and a SAC but I need some 5.29's for my 37" Goodyear MTRs to compliment my dual cases(oh yeah, 4.7's baby!) and longer rear springs!!! :great:

Junkers88 07-05-2009 06:46 PM

Blue I hate you...

Just kidding! Man I love those pictures, I'll like them even better when I'm there snapping them myself.

Go fishing in that clear water!!!!

Hey are those pictures from Reiters pit? I go up there every once and while just to dink around. I also ride dirt bikes up there and have been on that nice washed out rocky spot those first pictures are taken at. there was a little motorcycle race a while back that had that section in it. I was helping people through that section. one guy hit the rock right to the left of you and cleared the whole thing! It was pretty epic. anyway. nice rig.

Yup, that's all Reiter! Do you mean the creek or the rock climb? That's awesome either way!!! :banger: That rocky ledge uphill thingy is where myself, algranger and Blackbastard recovered some new guy and his $40k rig that he flopped.

Next time I go I'll probably put up an invite and if you can go you should!!!

well i have ridden through/up both sections. The rock climb the guy cleared. it was crazy. first time he nailed it. second lap around he cased it on the skid plate! kept going though. I don't go up that direction as much because i don't have lockers or skids, i tend to stick to some of the tamer trails. I am waiting for some extra cash for an ARB locker and next fall i will be making some sliders. all in good time. but i would like to come with you guys some time.

That's crazy!! lol!!

No worries, I pretty much do a lot of trail running and the tamer trails too, but I like challenges!
