build myself or buy complete? 22r

ok guys. i have decided to overhaul the engine and all that fun stuff. i might have a good deal on a 22r short block, brand new rebuilt. never used for 400. then i was thinkin i could buy a head($300?) and rebuild the carb? and then id be all set right?

or i can wait and save up and buy a full motor with it all? but i cant seem to find any online .

what do u guys think, build myself or buy it complete?

O miles on a brand new rebuilt for $400 is pretty cheap. As long as you have some confidence that the rebuilt was rebuilt right, I would buy it.

yeah its just the short block but thats damn good to me, with a nice head on there id be around 800 bucks...

i asked him to provide more info and pics

well, I'm not sure about motorcrate.com, but simply selling stuff on eBay does not mean it's a bad seller. At least with eBay you can see the rating.
Also, engbldr is an eBay seller and he seems to have a stellar reputation.

the truck already has a header(carb certified) and a full 2.25 in exhaust with highflow cat and flowmater 2 chamber...

what about rebuilding the carb? should i or should i guy a new one?

I think the experience from building it yourself is worth it alone if you've never done it.

true...

btw i have a total new question. someone said i might have a efi motor, but im pretty sure its a carb motor lol. doesnt the efi have a throttle body and the head says efi on it? sorry the the newb questions

maxpower_hd 02-06-2007 08:13 AM

You are correct. An EFI has a throttle body and a carb has......well a carb. You cannot miss it if you open the hood.

Big round air cleaner cover sort of in the middle of the engine compartment =carb. Smaller, black, rectangular air cleaner near the fender = EFI.

yeah thats what i thought lol hahhaha

so ive decided id rather buy it complete. anyone have any recomendations

Good luck on rebuilding the carb , That is something i just don't have the patients to do . They always run worse after i overhaul them lol....Make sure you have a acid bat to soak it in overnight....
