Bucket seats vs Sport Buckets - 1986 SR5 Xtracab
 

Hey gang! I'm looking to order car seat covers for my 1986 SR5 Xtracab Pickup. The seats are in killer shape and I want to keep them that way. Looking to order some sweet Covercraft Carhartt seat covers. Anyone know how to identify if these are the regular bucket seats or the sport bucket seats? Any help would be appreciated, I always try to measure three times, cut once, and get the right thing. Many thanks for the help!

I have those same style seats in my 86 X-cab. I get 'bucket' seat covers and they fit perfectly. I think a true sport seat has more aggressive side and seat bolstering. Since both listing say Type C, then i believe the seat covers are the same as a universal fit and fit either seat style.

My passenger seat is as pristine. Not so much on my driver side after 36 years of daily driving. Covers do help preserve them.

Thanks for weighing in, I was assuming the "Type C" listing meant it would be the same size either way and just wanted to double check before throwing down on the seat covers. I'll order them right now, many thanks JoeS! Also, love that steering wheel cover! Is that one of those stitch ons? I've been looking for a leather steering wheel cover, how do you like it and where'd you get it?

in toyota-speak for that year, those are the sport bucket seats. the adjustable lumbar and side bolsters are not on the "regular" buckets.

Oh interesting! Well, that's good to know about the side bolsters and adjustable lumbar. I did just order the Type C seat covers, so hopefully they'll fit either model. Fingers crossed! Will send pics if it works or not for other forum members to live through my experience. Keep your fingers crossed it works!

I do se how JoeS's seats dont have the adjustable lumbar where mine does, so that's great information thanks for educating me on it wallytoo

Thanks. I think the Type means they are the same. I always use seat covers from new and get the cheap ones. They last about 3 years and get grungy, then I buy new ones. Recently, I got black seat covers and floor mats to break up all the brown.

Yeah I'm hoping that the type means they're the same as well. I had cheap covers on for the last few years and they're gotten super grungy, and have worn through to the point that the driver's seat is wearing a bit underneath, so it's time to upgrade!

Yea, I don't have adjustable lumbars. Mine are like the top 2 gray seats only brown. The cheapo Walmart covers I buy would probably fit adjustable lumbers as there is some stretch to the fabric and in time it does form fit better.

Yea it was a stitch on cover I added maybe 15 years ago. It's real leather and got it from wall mart. The Black rubber was too hot in summer heat. Took the steering wheel off to stitch it on. It wasn't hard but took about an hour to make sure it was lined up and pulled evenly. It finally gave out from wear a couple years back and IU just went with a tan slip on cover. It looks OK and does make for a thicker rim grip.

I see you have a set of box speakers on your back deck like I do.

I do! I still need to hook them up though and am hoping my current receiver allows for 4 speakers. Planning to get them hooked up this summer! That color is unreal, is yours stock like that?

Thanks for the info on the steering wheel cover, was the leather worth the effort and investment or do you prefer the grip slip on cover?

It was originally brown but worked at a shipyard and got paint over spray on it so they paid to get it repainted about 18 years ago. The clear is beginning to peel now, so it's getting that old truck paint patina look. Inside door frame is original brown and new is a slight bit reddish.

The slip on isn't as factory looking and couldn't find a stitch on in leather one. It looked good and wasn't hard but you do have to take your time and not pull too hard or you rip out the holes. I went with the slip on type for being lazy. It doesn't slip at all and the extra thickness is somewhat padded, so a nicer feel. Plus they are cheap. Cleans up well with 409. It's a truck so looks good enough.

I added Pioneer 4" co-axials in the front dash and Sony 6x9 Tri-axial in the rear boxes. I'm going to go with 4" co-axial higher end infinities and a seperate powered sub when I replace my old Sony CD stereo. China chip shortage has my new Sony Media stereo buy on hold.

That's a great color! Looking good JoeS! Burnt orange is one of my favs. To get the 6x9's in the back did you need to install a separate amplifier or were you able to plug them directly into your receiver?

I added a Sony CD player that had front and rear speaker outputs, plus a sub-woofer output for connecting a powered sub. Going to upgrade to a Sony Media Player that has no CD. Just takes usb drives with music on it or cell phones. Most aftermarket stereo units will support both front and rear speakers. Just make sure you 'phase' them all to get a coherent sound.

I did build the boxes and carpeted them.
