I'm looking to do a long build up of a 22re for my 89 Toyota. So i found a brand new block is it any good?

There are very few good 22r blocks in my area
most are over-bored and cracked

for 570? no it is not good at all. There are entire engines for sale on this board for like 300.

PROBABLY a china block/ thats what ive seen available for "new" apps. you can get them bored,painted w/f.plugs for 450 or so other places, 22re.com for example

beside the fact that they are chinese??? alot when it comes to oem style quality. I have never heard of really anything good from economy style parts. I like original bored blocks for rebuild. Any shifting or change that metal may encounter has already occured. When you then re-bore the block to a 20 over or so in my opinion you are getting a "true" seasoned bore.

That's a terrible price, but a used complete 22RE from a wrecker for that price and it will probably outlast the truck with the proper attention.

Listen to these guys and don't waste your money. Theres a place by my house that has rebuildable short blocks for $150.00, that includes a usable crank, rods and pistons. I got quoted $120 to have the block cleaned up, deck checked out and punched out .20 over. Another $100 to balance the crank when I get new pistons and rings on there, by the same shop. I would still be under what you spent on your block. Use that extra money to rework the head and put new lifters, springs, valves and cam. With all that, my totals came to about $700, on paper. What do you think? Where are you located?

I Bought a rebuilt block from import engine supply in garden city and have had it in my truck for 4 years and have nothing wrong with it except a timing chain issue. i just want to build a spare that is extremely reliable .

Sounds sweet. Why not go the same route then? Buy one thats not rebuilt and just use quality internal parts for your rebuild and take your time. I am doing the same thing. Building a spare before mine goes. i have 216k on mine. Just use an OEM block. Thats all everyone is saying. I've read read lots of negative things about these chinese ebay blocks too. Just looking out man.

how much can you punch out a 22re i know its 94 mm max but can you go .010 at a time or do you have to go 1 mm at a time?

Just to point out too, I want to keep mine stock bore, but the machine shop I talked just suggested going to .20 over because with an older high mileage block you will have cylinder wall wear, then with a hone job you will get slightly more wear and to avoid blow by and proper ring seal you might as well go one size up. He is charging me $20 more to punch it out then to just hone it. Most piston sets are the same price for .20 over as for a stock set, so no added cost there.

I wouldn't got more than .40 over, maybe .60 if the block get thoroughly checked out
