Bought a new 95 4Runner, got a question.....

Hey guys! Just bought a 95 4runner and i have a question. First its a:

95 SR5 4X4
v6 3.0
It does have the A340H Trans It is tagged 3080LE.

My question is this, on the 4X4 shifter its like its not labeled correct.
On mine 2wd is in the L4 position, and 4wd high is in the H4 position and 4wd low is in the H2 position. Whats the deal? Oh and i have tested and everything works great its just like the wrong cover is on the shifter.... Whats yours look like?

So all yours are backwards like mine and your gears are different like the labels are wrong? thats nuts...

They're not backwards, why would you want the shifter to be sticking up like that (in 4L) all the time? I like it hidden, out of the way etc. No one will mistake it for the automatic shifter.

well i dont mean backwards as much as just labeled wrong i guess. i thought i had bought a 4runner with some hack job tranny.

As you can see the amount of dirt in this thing was crazy so i was not sure. I have been cleaning on it for the last 5 hrs.

Feel the difference engaged in H4 & L4 as opposed to H2?

Yes, it all seems to work great. 2wd, h4 and l4 huge difference in l4 i have to hold the brake as it tends to want to crawl slowly in l4. It seems to work 100% fine.

sounds like the linkage is installed backwards.. not sure if that is possible on these trucks, but I know it was on mid 80s GMC/Chevys..
