Hey, been a long time since I sold my Toyota truck. Bought a 94 4runner today. It has a v6, 5spd and pretty much loaded for a 1994. Needs a battery, power steering pump, and a/c recharged. Has some body damage on the passenger side but not too major. Anyway, the brakes do not work. It has a new master cylinder. I put brake fluid in and it leaks out behind the gas tank. I located the exact area and it is a pin hole leak. I have no idea if it rusted out, or if something punctured it. So, do I go to the junk yard (drop my gas tank) and find a replacement line? (I think it runs the length of the vehicle) or is there a way to replace a section? I want to do it the right way and my gut is telling me to replace the whole thing. I appreciate the help

You can go to the junk yard and get the specific brake line you need, or you can go and buy your own hard line and connect it by making your own flare fittings. It's not too difficult, you just gotta research a little bit.

But if you can find one at a junk yard, it's probably your easiest bet. Just make sure it's a good one.

Yea dude, if you can find one at a bone yard for a decent price then go for it. If not, you can probably buy one from Toyotapartszone.com.

If its a hole from corrosion I'd start inspecting and replacing any others that are suspect.

I was looking at that Maroon 4runner on CL this morning, thought about calling the guy and buying it my self.

Looks nice. If you need parts let me know. I have some doors, a PS pump sitting on the shelf ect, and I live in Monmouth so I am only about 15 minutes from you. If you like you can PM me and we can get together and see exactly what you need to get you going. Is the brake problem coming from the hard steel line, the T juction, or the flex hose at the back?

And the price was right, especially for what you got.

Its coming from the hard steel line where it comes from the back of the tank. Its a small pin hole. I had my brother step on the brakes and saw a little tiny leak squirt straight out.

It's a common place for them to leak. Sand and crud gets into the clip that holds the line to the frame, where it then rubs through the lines.

You can cheap out and try to find the lines at a junkyard, but then how long until they wear through? The best way is to run brand new lines. You can either buy them from Toyota, which isn't too expensive from what some people have written on here, or you can do what I did and buy a roll of brake line from somewhere like NAPA and bend your own. It isn't difficult, but you will need a brake line double flare tool.

There are two lines that run to the back, to the LSBPV. It's best to do both, but one at a time so you don't cross lines. Removing the fuel tank isn't absolutely necessary, but you'll probably need to loosen it and move it so you can get to the lines easier.

Living in the great Salt belt I find the idea of salvage yard brake lines a scary thought.

I sometimes forget there are places in the country where you could get away with doing that.

I am just so used to making my own lines anymore it is the only way I think.

If you a new to making double flares it wont hurt to practice some first.

Looks like I'll just run new line. Sounds like that will be the best/safest thing to do.

I would run new line X2
