blown head opinions

i have an 87 toyota 4runner tht i blew a head gasket on due to a blown coolant hose. After taking the head to my school and having it hot tanked i found a crack between the exhaust valve and intake valve on cyl #2 or 3 dont have it next to me.

so i havent checked the deck yet, but im in need of some opinions on what to do but keep this in mind im a poor college student.

if my block is good im thinking about putting a new head on and if its bad im thinking about finding a real cheap engine or going to a local pick-n-pull and taking the whole engine out of a toyota.

if money's not an issue rockauto sells a head. you will need to put valves, sprinngs and the rocker arm in but you can get this one for $252.00 warrenty included. SOHC part number CH900 the link to their site is www.rockauto.com

Having a shop weld it is still cheaper than buying a new head....even if you can't do it yourself. That would save you some money because you're going to want to replace your bearings. I bet the block is fine.

Oh, and depending on how many miles are on it, you might also consider new rings.

good advice thook, not alot of people realize once they tighten up the top end of the motor with brand new parts it actually stresses the bottom end of the motor. If your just putting a used head on it's not that much of a big deal.

well i posted a build-up thread. so ive moved everything over their. but replacing the head is out of the options. my block is warped.

Go buy a runner that's wrecked or is parting out and swap motors...

But it's best since the engine is already out to do PM that might otherwise be hard once it's in the bay...
