Blazeland Long Travel: Shock Recommendations
My winter project on my 91 Extended cab this year is a F/R suspension rebuild/refresh, Custom Big Brake kit, E-Locker Axle Swap, and Front Diff Re-gear. I have the Blazeland DIY Long Travel setup welded and complete, and all the steering components figured out. I will be pairing the LT kit with a Skyjacker 4" drop bracket kit, and Sway-A-Way Torsion Bars.
Does anyone have any part numbers or an idea on extended/ compressed length for shocks with the Drop Bracket and Blazeland Set up? I would think that it would be longer than the ones listed here: http://www.lowrangeoffroad.com/bilst...24-185745.html I don't wish to go to a coil over setup: I would like to use easily source-able, replaceable parts. I wouldn't be opposed into looking into a shock hoop setup, however I would prefer if I could use the factory mounting arrangement, keeping everything simple. Also, does anyone have pictures or advice regarding shock mounts on a full width rear axle (think 1-ton/T-100). I purchased a 2nd gen 2005-2015 E-Locker Rear End assembly and it measures 66-3/4" from Wheel mounting surface to Wheel mounting Surface. I am tentatively leaning towards mounting my shocks outboard of the frame like the BAMF kit for the 2nd gen Tacomas. http://bayareametalfab.3dcartstores....-Kit_p_14.html I will be pairing this axle with 63" chevy springs. |

What did Nate at blazeland recommend when you contacted him?
Are you gonna actually use the truck? A drop kit like the skyjacker kit seem like it will break. |
It will get used to some extent off road, but little to no rock crawling. I do plan to fab a Lower Control arm brace to box the factory LCA mounts together up top, as well as some bolt braces to make the drop bracket kit a complete assembly instead of 2 separate pieces.
Nate didn't have any input on the shock length when I purchased this kit and associated parts from him. |

So you said your suspension is basically complete right? Throw the tires on and cycle through the suspension from full bump to full droop and take measurements. Take into consideration where you run into binding at droop, and where you start rubbing (if at all) at full bump. Obviously you don’t want the shock to be the limiting factor on either end. Sorry if this isn’t a whole lot of help, but it’s hard know knowing what travel shocks you need without doing some measurements. You seem like a handy fellow, so even if they’re too long I’m sure you could fab up something to get the most out of them. |

Fair enough. I was hoping that since there are a few people running a similar setup, maybe someone had some info. I'll just mock them up once it's all assembled and see where its at.
Has anyone done a rear shock relocation, with the shocks running outside the rear of the frame? I think the only way one could do it would be with a wider axle, which I will be running. I'd rather not run them mounted / \ like most do on the cross member. |
Ok Hotnotch, did you ever get the Blazeland LT on top of the Skyjacker lift worked out?
