I tried to remove as little as possible. I got the pedals unbolted and out of the way. The bolts coming into the cab are what are holding the brake booster in place. To get the bolts on the left side you go under the hood. They are the clutch master cylinder mounting bolts. I was able to then pull the brake booster and clutch master cylinder into the under hood area to get them out of the way from under the dash. It's not a hard job just tedious. I have busted knuckles and it helps if you are a contortionist when working under the dash lol.

okay so i will have to pull both the clutch master and brake booster?

Thanks..

I will most likely enjoy welding it, but i will hate every second of removing the bracket/reinstallling it..

Yeah the bolts for them run through the bracket. That's how each of them bolt to the firewall. It's just the nuts for the booster are in the cab and the nuts for the clutch master cylinder are under the hood. You don't have to undo any hard lines, etc. Just kinda move them out of the way without crimping them.

Just loosen the bolts to both. You don't actually have to remove them...and, you don't have to remove the gas pedal

Its actually really easy.

Plus im not the tiniest of guys and working under the dash is horrible.
Guess while im working on stuff under there maybe i can actually hook up my start wire to the starter relay and hook up my cb/rocklights.

WOuld this be caused by out of adjustment screw down there?

I would try draining and re-fiing your tranny with GL-4, it may have gotten GL-5 put in it at some point.

Mine was the same way when I bought it, real notchy/noisy when shifting and tough to get into first gear, I put Redline MT-90 GL-4 in it and it got way better.

I had a 1990 2wd that had the bracket break also, some welding and bolts did the trick.

Yea. This is a PITA to do. ITs not really that bad its just being underneath the dash is what sucks the most IMO.

My bracket had obviously been welded before. I feel there should be a recall on this bracket. Possibly.

I just finished welding it up. Just welded the crack and did some cross welds perpendicular to the first weld. Hopefully it will hold up.

So less than 1.5 hrs i have the bracket out and welded up. SO hopefully i can get it all back together in about an hour and be done with this PITA.

Ill post up some pictures later.

I was able to shift gears to get me to the shop but it was a real workout. It's times like these that I wish I knew how to work on my own repairs and save some $$$

Mine started doing the same thing with the creaking sound. I thought it was just old age and something needed to be greased up. I've swapped out my M/C due to leaking. I did not notice any cracks in the brackets, but i might have to take a look again. I sometimes have a hell of a time getting into gear. Also on the clutch pedal it's self the hole seems to have been rounded out over the years, were the locking pin goes. Gives me extra play in the clutch pedal all together.

Does any companys make a aftermarket setup?

im not sure. Mine had cracked on teh arm just behind the clutch pedal. So you kind of had to look aroudn to see teh crack in teh bracket.

Try adjusteing your master cylinder in or out to help. Where does your clutch engage?

I got mine welded and reinforced by a custom fab shop that is about 10 minutes from my work. I found him with a Yahoo search. He charged me $20, which I was happy to pay since I was about to shell out for a new one. I don't have a welder, and the few people I do know that weld are booger weld masters lol. I left this one to a pro. I will post a pic tonight if I remember.

Talking

First off if who welds the bracket knows what they are doing it should last another 20 years.

I should get some of these and strengthen the brackets and take broke ones for cores

I can`t think of not doing my own work except for Front End Alignments

Got it back in on Saturday and it drives great again, but the clutch feel is slightly different. It seems like the clutch is releasing later, causing me to get back on the gas before it has fully released. Makes me look like a rookie shifter lol. I may take a try at adjusting it.
