dijlop Apr 22, 2007 05:11 PM

Mud tires + lockers

dijlop Apr 22, 2007 05:13 PM

ok, so lockers are a biggy. now between a body lift and a suspension lift, based on price and mud ability, which is better?

navyredneck Apr 22, 2007 05:18 PM

BL, cheap to fit big tires but only the change in tire size affects your clearance

Suspension, expensive but will give you more clearance up front for IFS

dijlop Apr 22, 2007 05:21 PM

yea. are there any suspension lifts for my truck that are less than the ones i found for $580? and if not, is there a way to do it piece by piece for cheaper? and i plan on doing most of the work myself.

the only benefit from a lift is gonna be your ability to run larger tires...a suspension lift isnt what gets you thru nasty mud...your truck is

and mudding isnt 90% driver...its a 50/50 split, you need a capable rig and a good driver to do any sort of responsible offroading...

89silverpu Apr 22, 2007 05:27 PM

And make sure you check out the mud pit and how thick the mud is first.....I found that out the hard way, look at my avater :chairfall

dijlop Apr 22, 2007 05:27 PM

mudding...responsible offroading...mudding...responsible offroading... i think those dont fit that great. safe offroading, yes. responsible? out of that 90% thats driver, 50% is experiance. the other 40 is knowing ur vehicle. i would take someone thats mudded for many years in a little truck sittin on little wheels, with a little engine, over some kid thats never seen mud before in a skyhigh f250 on massive wheels and such

i havent quite been that deep. just got my back bumper to sit slightly under the water. knew it was there though. just a little drop off and my back end slid right off. nasty stuff when ur in that deep.

If I was going to mud a 2wd, I'd lift it high enough to run at least 33" mud tires, do a rear axle swap to one out of a 4wd with 8" ring gears and a stock 4.10 ratio, add a locker and go to town with it.

At that point you've done all to it that you can.

Then when you get tired of getting stuck buy a 4wd.

You'll still get stuck but you'll get twice as far in to it before you do as a 2wd truck...

RustBucket Apr 22, 2007 05:36 PM

Personally I would take the kid with the F250 4x4...

We can get righteous in our little Toyotas, rightly so, but not TOO righteous...

Elton Apr 22, 2007 05:38 PM

when play around in the mud with my truck with just the locker and it does fine so i would say lockers and tires
