Auto Trans Problem

I have a 92 Toyota 4runner 3.0 V6 and it will not go into passing gear also overdrive does not work until the engine is at operating temp. Put a brand new temp sensore and new throttle body. Talked to several trans specialist and they have no clue or tell me the things that iv fixed alrdy. If anyone has had this problem or knows anything about this problem plz post. Thanks

The OD is not supposed to engage until at operating temp..........

As for the passing problem, is the 92 still controlled by a kick-down cable? If so, tighten it up a little bit. Next, take a look at the TPS to make sure it's adjusted properly.

Iv adjusted the cable several times and test drove it and no change also went by the book on the TPS as far as adjusting even slaped a new one on and still the same thing. The overdrive issue; even after operating temp the od still does not kick in every now and then, it would not be issue if i didnt take the highway to work.

How's the thermostat? Maybe you're coolant is running a bit too cool, like t-stat stuck open.

Changed thermo 3 different times just incase i recieved a bad one from part store.

Are you sure you changed the right temp sender? There is more than one right? I'm not sure which one the ECU uses for the tranny operation.

Renegade92 02-13-2009 11:11 AM

Well iv changed the temp sensor on the water blck at the back on engine not sure of any others.

mt_goat 02-13-2009 11:37 AM

As I understand it, there is one for the dash gauge and one for the ECU, may even be another one for the tranny but not sure about that. I'll check out the FSM.

Well looking at my EWD for a 93 ECU I only see one water temp sensor for the ECU. But there also appears to be another one for the combination meter (dash gauges). I don't see how to tell the difference off hand. You might try looking into it more here: http://personal.utulsa.edu/~nathan-b...fsm/index.html

Pull transmission codes.

Renegade92 02-15-2009 12:58 PM

Yeah i pulled some trans codes and everythings running normal.

Renegade92 02-15-2009 01:08 PM

Yeah your its correct as far as the one sensor looked through it and could find anything that could be my problem mt goat.

annoyingrob 02-15-2009 07:31 PM

Try swapping out the transmission computer for a known good one. I would agree it's more likely a sensor issue though.

I've got a similar problem. There is a list of things it could be and with no Codes your screwed like me. Try the vehicle transmission speed sensor. Does your speed one tee work?

Skatehard96 12-20-2012 07:59 AM

Speedometer I mean. Auto correct.
