Here's the story.

It's actually a 1985 4Runner but I'm posting here for more 22re traffic.

Just installed a 2 inch RB body lift last week and it's had a high idle ever since. Starts up at around 1000 and travels up (on it's own) to about 1900. Even once it's warmed up it doesn't come down, bumping the gas pedal doesn't bring it down, AND it's putting out a little white smoke which it has never done before.

Keep in mind everything went smooth with the lift installation and I did order/install the drop radiator brackets from Roger.

I searched and actually found a post where a guy had the exact same problem after a body lift install, his cure was to get the air out of the cooling system. So I tried that. Last night I drained the radiator and replaced the upper radiator hose (it was old) and it hasn't helped. Refilled the radiator on a steep incline.

Also checked the throttle cable and it doesn't appear to be in a bind anywhere and I can't find any vacuum lines that are disconnected.

Please keep in mind, this is NOT a slam on Roger Brown or his products. The lift was perfect as usual, this is just a bug I need to track down. Any suggestions?

Not a lot of help, but maybe check the TPS. Just thinking somehow the wires may have been pulled on or something like that. other than that no help from me.

i was the guy with the over heating problem. i had to bleed the air out of my cooling system because i took out my rad out when i did the body lift and put the drop brakcets in. when i started my truck up it felt like it was missing then the temp was going up soo fast so i stopped. i started it back up in liek 10 mins and the truck was doing the exact same like there was a huge vacuum leak and it was overheating. ok this is what i did. fill up the rad. undo the hose that goes to the thermostat. dont completely drain the rad. take out the thermostat. put every thing together except the thermostat and fill up the rad. run the truck for like 10-15 mins with no thermostat and open up the rad cap to add water ect. and rev it a bit too. you will find the truck will be acting normally and the temp goes to under half. ok after your done doing that. pull the hose that is going to the thermostat and reinstall it making sure you dont completely drain the rad from doing that. put everything back together add coolant ect and voila your problems will be gone. my buddys auto instructor told him about that thermostat trick.

I haven't pulled the thermostat and tried that method, I'll try that next and hopefully it's fixed! Thanks a million guys!
