i did a body lift on the truck and i drained the coolant from the rad. i put the coolant back in and the truck started to overheat in 5-6 mins. i didnt know what to do. a mechanic told me to take out the thermostat put the coolant back in and run the truck for like 10 mins, then take off the thermostat housing making sure all of the coolant doesnt run out of the bottom rad hose. then install the thermostat and fill up the rad. i did that and it solved my overheating problem. the system was full of air

The funny thing is (or not) i had about a week ago told my son i would never own one with the 3.0 ! but this truck came long and the price ( i think ) was right its in pretty good shape for a 94 and being up here in VT , the cab is pretty much rust free there is some around the rear wheel wells but it has a new toyota frame under it new brakes, new shocks, all new brakelines ,master cyl. and booster same for the clutch, new front a arm and it goes on, so was hoping something easy and cheap to fix should have none ! I did or was think i might try taking out the t-stat and see what would happen but its still funny as hot as it got it never pushed any heat out of the heater ,if it got that hot woulden't it heat the air coming out of the heater too ?

check if the heater hoses are connected. also check for leaks while its runnng, if your losing water but not on the outsde you might have a blown headgasket. check the oil for water.

Intake manifold gasket leaking? Clogged rad.... idle should not be at or near 2000 and can cause it to run hot quick if the cooling system is not tip top.....

I think it's about 700-900 from what I recall.
It should be marked under the hood on a sticker.

If it's overheating and no heat is coming from the heater that would point to a bad head gasket no?

thats the thing i have been try to figure out , but no coolent leak on the outside of the motor no coolent in the oil no smoke just 10mins of running on a cold motor she's in the red and boiling out its got a lot of back pressure both hoses where hard so ???? some are leaning towards a water pump but still would it give heat even if the pump was bad ? or would it get through the system with a bad pump ?

it could be an internal head gasket leak, leaking exhaust gases into the coolant, thus no visible coolant useage or leaks.

I think the head gaskets are blown. That's my final answer.

my thought is that it has air in the system but still preasure check it and then idk it seems really redundant with the headgasket thing lol

Ok we pulled the tstat out filled it back up and started it, it seems to be flowing through the radiator good let it run a good 15mins and never boiled over the temp. got up to about a 1/4 took it up the hill and back and maybe gauge got to 1/2 but never boiled over the hoses didn't get hard had some pressure in them BUT this morning we checked the radiator and it was down maybe a quirt or less ? anyhow could not find any leaks and oil still looked good also did a pressure check and it never lost any pressure , started and let it run awhile again today still seemed good no smoke no leaks and nothing in the oil so where can the water be going ? and do you think it was or is just a bad aftermarket tstat ?
