Am I too stupid to figure this out? Please help with my seat swap

Here is my situation, I found a 1995 4Runner at the local Pull-A-Part that had the 50/50 split rear bench. Since my '87 Runner came with the cheap one piece rear seat that had the cushions that just velcro'd in place, I thought this would be an improvement.

Well, I went ahead and got all of the seats from the '95 and the fronts mounted up just fine with a couple of modifications having to be done. The base of the rears mounted up fine after I relocated the mounting wholes. The back of the rears also mounted up fine, all I had to do was elongate a couple of mounting plates.

Now here is my problem, the "U' Shaped tab that the rear of the seat locks in to (where you have to pull the knob at the top of the seat to release) are nowhere near lining up and I see no way of making them work. The old tabs were mounted on a bar that was bolted to the roll bar in a verticle position. The new ones need to be about 6" lower and in a horizontal position.

I am begging for any advice on how to make this locking mechanism work because this is where my daughters will be riding.

Here are some pics of what I am talking about:

That piece that bolts on the rollbar is not a factory piece. It was part of an add on done by whatever company added the rear seats into the truck (many DX models came from Japan with no rear seats, as the tarrifs were lower for "Pickup trucks")

There is supposed to be a bracket that mounts to the inside lip of the bed side, so go back to the truck you got the seats from and unbolt those brackets. You might be able to get them to bolt up then.

Keep in mind you are spanning generations of 4Runners, so you will most likely have to modify the backets to make them fit.

If you look in this article I wrote, you can see where the striker latch is supposed to sit:

Its oval shaped, near the front of the rear panels. The pictures also show how the seats are supposed to attach, and at what level. Keep in mind the seats in my 4runner are factory, for an 87

I have the brackets and I see the spot on the lip of the bedside where you mounted yours. Problem is, where the bracket mounts is about 4-5 inches higher than where the latch mechanism is located on the seat.

You will likely have to modify that mounting position then, since you are using 2nd gen parts in your 1st gen. Get some pieces of 1/8" steel and build some drop brackets
