Air bags with 63" gmc springs?
I'm thinking of doing the 63" chev spring swap (sky manufacturing kit) into my 86 runner this spring. Thing is, I carry a lot of weight in the back on camping trips & I have a 13 gal aux. WVO tank in the rear where the spare tire was.
Is it possible to do the spring swap & put in overload airbags like the ride-rite kit from firestone? I'll also be putting in a set of 1.5" BJ spacers in the front, OME torsion bars, and bilstein 5100s all the way around. Tires will be 31x12.5 Pro comps. Any comments/suggestions are more than welcome! Thanks in advance, jeff |
i dont think you will need the overload because you have to remember that the 63in chevys are from a fullsize truck built to carry alot of weight. and 31s might be a little small
here is a old pic of my buddys 4runner with chevies with bald 32s http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c3...Picture038.jpg |
Well then. 32's it'll be. How much lift do you need in the front to even things out then?

I doubt it would work well. I have the airbags on my 07 and the OEM shocks only travel slightly less than the airbags, but it saves the bags from over extending. A longer shock and I would destroy my bags, let alone a flexy LT setup like a 63" chevy.
I always thought about a second set of shocks for my 92 that I had the same concern on, make them air shocks and disconnect at the trailhead. |
