Ac install
 

Hey guys. New to the forum but I’ve been creeping around the forums for weeks now. I bought a 1990 pickup about two months ago.
So it came with no a/c and I’ve read things were people get old parts from other cars to have ac in theirs. I found two trucks getting parted out and want to get their lines and everything. I just don’t know what the full ac system consist of and couldn’t find it in my manual. Can you guys help me out ? What should I take from the other trucks?

You will need the compressor and compressor bracket.
All ac lines.
Evap box under the dash (there is a module attached to the evap box that you need as well)
A/c button from hvac controls.
condenser assembly from in front of radiator. There is a round cylinder as well. recommend you buy a new one (its called a drier) but you need the mounting bracket and lines from it.

I would recommend two large adjustable wrenches. There are two connections at the fire wall that can be a bear to separate. Those are really the only tough connections. Take your time removing from the parts truck. Most of the lines are aluminum and will bend easily.

The a/c amps may be different between those years are 94 was the first year they started using R134 instead of the old R12. They would be different due to the different operating pressures and temperatures between the two refrigerants.

This dealer https://parts.lakelandtoyota.com/p/T...865089113.html says that part no. 88650-89113 fits 4runners/trucks from 1990 through 1995. (Though they say that there is different part no 88650-89106 for trucks with the 22re.)

R134a was required for trucks built after 1/1994. My '94 was built in 8/93 (as is usual for model years), and came with R12. I don't know whether Toyota switched mid-year (I imagine they did), but presumably some '94s and all '95s came with R134a.

While there are P/T differences between R12 and R134a, the amplifier doesn't sense pressure. Pressure is "sensed" by the pressure switch. The same dealer says the pressure switch 88645-10020 only fits through 1994, so it is possible Toyota used a different pressure switch after the R134a changeover.

But I can tell you that the pressure switch built into trucks with R12 works just fine with R134a. And the TSB for conversion makes no mention of the pressure switch (or thermistor).

So while I'm no expert, I don't think the a/c amplifiers are different over '90-'95.
