a340h rebuild cost?
Anyone know what kind of price I should expect to have a shop rebuild an a340h (already out of the truck)?
I've got an extra tranny and am trying to decide whether to rebuild it myself or send it out to a shop.
Thanks for any info!

i checked and it was more than havin a engine rebuilt...you can do it yourself fairly easily just keep all your parts in order by how they come out on a long table and label stuff if you have any doubts.
edit: also keep a notepad close by so you can write down anything about how something was hard or odd to take out

The transmission has a problem where it won't stay in 3rd gear. On upshifting, it either goes straight from 2nd to OD or it will stop at 3rd just for a few seconds then go to OD.
It will not downshift from OD to third, instead it just will downshift to 2nd or will stay in OD (if over 60 mph). The OD on/off switch has no effect on any of this.
I did all the FSM diagnostics, checked the ect, replaced the solenoids, and cleaned the valve body with no improvement. I've been told that the problem lies somewhere in the gear train which will require rebuilding of the transmission.
If I end up rebuilding it myself, my plan was to get a master rebuild kit from bulkpart transmissions (~$200)
