'95 Rear Widow Motor
Anybody know if I can, or even should, check the rear window motor on my 95Runner to make sure that's the reason my window failed. Could there be another reason? Has anyone ever changed this motor?

-take off the carpet tail-gate covering
-remove the metal pan under it
-unclip the white wiring harness connector on the motor
-jumper it with a 12 volt battery and 2 wire leads
If you can get it to turn, its a switch/relay/wiring/interlock issue.
If you need a new motor, any door motor will work from a 1990-1995 4Runner. Yotayard wanted $100 for a used rear motor, I got a used door window motor for $10. The passenger side I belive is the side you want.
I got a driviers side an had to install the motor clocked 180'
It still worked, and was still a direct bolt up (only 3 bolts secure it) but up was down and vice versa on the switch.
I can't help you much with anything other than that, I have never messed with the relays and switches.
Hope it helps,

The relay is located behind the left panel in the cargo area. If you pull the panel off, it's just in front of the taillight. Test the motor first as Lamm said though. If rust isn't an issue, it's most likely the motor or relay.

Thanks for the help. I'll run the tests and hit the local junkyards if need be.

I found a guy on ebay that sold rebuilt window motors... bought it for about 80 bucks and he even gave a small warranty... works like a champ... try there.

Here's a couple cheaper ones on ebay:

There's more like this for less than $80.

I replaced my motor and then it worked. I could tell the acuator still worked because when I turned the key I could still move the window with my hand, and heard the old motor making a sick noise. The motor isn't expensive and Auto Zone gives a decent core charge on it. If you have some decent mechanic ability you can do this, but there is more than enough chance you'll damage the window, so I'd get it professonally done if you are a novice.
