I don't know if a unit from a 99-04 unit would fit but I am off to a stereo shop to get an Alpine radio/cd player this morning. The benefit to this modern unit is it will come with a slot to plug in an i-pod.

I would look into the Scion Radio mod. If you search I'm sure you'll find what I'm talking about. I was planning on doing this before my 95 died.

I swapped out my stereo a couple weeks ago.
A single DIN stereo fits just fine in the dash.
Go to any electronics store and pick one up. Find one that matches what you want/need.

Yes.

Toyota uses industry standard DIN sizes for their radios. Most Toyotas use a standard double DIN radio, where as a few oddball Toyotas use a single DIN radio. Toyota also standardized their radio wiring around 87, so with the exception of a few radio models that use external amplifiers, ALL are interchangable with each other.

Also, because the radio sizes are standard, aftermarket radios bolt RIGHT IN to the factory brackets.

Edit: One of my pet peeves is people who isntall aftermarket radios into Toyotas, and hack apart the consoles to install the crappy brackets taht came with the radios, when all they needed to do was bolt it to the fatory brackets.

works great... installed my wife's 2000 cd/tape/radio into my '88 4runner.

in my application the head unit is a touch to deep but you can't really tell especailly after the bezel is installed.

I just bought a kenwood to go into my 92 and the deck WILL NOT fit in the factory slot. My factory unit has the 2 din plugs but the width of the factory unit is wider than my ken. and the adapter face plat is too small for my ken.....ughh... also I am having problems with getting sound after hooking up the harness. It all works fine,, lights , functions, etc... but no sound. Someone said I have to disc. the factory amp, this amp is located where?...

i believe the amp is connected to your old deck with a round plug, so if like on mine the round plug is covered, then no amp. trouble shot the wires by hooking a small speaker to each wire from the new deck to determine if it is in the wiring
