95 4runner - 4x4 6ylinder automatic - O/d Doesnt Work - Plus More
vehicle : 95 4runner 4x4 automatic 6 banger
O/d doesnt engage When i push the o/d button on shifter.. No light on dash comes on.. Shifter light doesnt come on.. checked bulb and its good Ashtray doesnt light up, checked Bulb its good.. I noticed that the shifter light is using the same plug/connector as the o/d swith.. has anyone had this problem?.. im wondering if there is a Fuse.. that controls all of these?.. also.. i tested the O/d switch with my multimeter.. and it came out to 2.1 is my switch * on shifter * good? what are the specs i should be getting? can someone help? Shiftter assembly instrutions would also help.. wiring diagram for o/d**. shifter console light**. ashtray light** Thanks again guys.. I just want to use O/D again.. |
Update :
This is what the Original Owner of my 4runner said.. Before the O/D off light would flash.. and O/d wouldnt engage.. Before they sold the car to me.. the O/D off light just wouldnt Work at all.. * pressing the o/d button wouldnt do anything *.. and O/D was Lost all together.. I tried jumping the terminals and getting the Codes.. NOTHING.. NO CODES at ALL.. NO O/D off light on my Dash.. and NO o/D at all. I got no code to work off of. The Only idea i have is from the troubleshooting manual for the transmission A340H. Disconnect the O/D shift solenoid.. and run the tranny manual through the gears.. and i still have NO O/D its a Transmission problem.. If i do have O/D.. its gotta be electrical.. But why No Codes then? and No o/D?.. doesnt make sense to me.. THanks for reading my RANT.. Help would be GreaT! |
Same issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated here.

SHot in the dark but I think there is a temperature sensor in the tranny that won't allow shifting when cold. Maybe that is a problem? I had a shifting problem with mine and I found it was down about a quart of fluid. That's all I got.......

Since the light used to flash and now doesn't light up at all. Check/Replace the bulb in the cluster. The local parts store can look up the bulb type for you, I don't recall.
The light, for reference, is "O/D Off". :D It should light up in the cluster when O/D is disabled. Disconnect solenoid wire. While driving, shift through the L, 2 and D positions. Check that the gear change corresponds to the shift position. If any abnormality is found in the above test, the problem lies in transmission itself. Shiftter assembly instrutions would also help.. wiring diagram for o/d**. The 2 Ohm reading on the switch is probably good, it needs to be higher than zero so the ECU can override it to flash the light. shifter console light**. ashtray light** With the lights off, test for positive. Turn on the lights and check for ground. Also visually inspecting bulbs doesn't work reliably, you need to apply power or test for conductivity. You can likely get the codes with a volt meter at the OD switch, vehicle side, the ECU outputs High/12v to turn off the light. eg Count the 0volt as "light lit", and +/-12volt as "light off". I'm not sure if it needs to see the positive voltage before it will start however, but it's alot easier than pulling the cluster to change the bulb. |
What is a 95 limited 4runner's tow capacity?
I got a limited edition 95 4runner with the tow package but don't know it's tow capacity and need it for towing random items as the need arises. Any help?
