95 3vze Slow to Start and Low/High First Idle
 

I recently bought a 1995 4x4 4runner with the 3vze engine. The first few days I had it, it started quickly, but consistently idled low until warmed up. I have put ~500 miles on it now, driving to a friend in another city once. It drives very well but startup is getting worse. Today it took me 2 tries to start it, cranking for a few seconds while pressing the accelerator. It seems to be starting and dying, starting and dying. Once I got it going, It idled pretty low. I've tried a few more times now and when it finally starts, it idles low, high or rough at first. Once I have driven for a minute or so, it seems to idle fine from then on. I have the FSM and am starting to go through the troubleshooting procedures, but I am also seeing a lot mentioned on this forum that are not to be found in the FSM. What could be possible issues and fixes? Any help is appreciated, thank you.

There are a lot of things it could be. I'd start by seeing if you have any trouble codes. If none, then follow the FSM. If you haven't done a basic tune up, then I'd start there.
