94' 22re struggling under load

Hey guys! Im a beginner with a problem, and I've reached the limit of my car knowledge.

The Truck - 94' Toyota pickup, 22re with 220K miles
The Problem - The truck starts a pretty sever shake when under load/ going up hills. It peaks around 2200 rpm and smoothes out around 2700.
What I did - We figured it needed a tune up. We replaced the VC Gasket, Spark Plugs (Denso), Cap and rotor (Toyota) and Plug Wires (NGK)
The Result - The problem improved very very slightly, still a major issue. We decided to check out the timing... it was WAY off.. So, we got it lined up at the 5 mark and it made the problem much much worse. It has no power and sucks gas like its going out of style.

We're at a loss. Is it a timing issue still? My next thought would be some sort of fuel issue, maybe a filter or a pump? This has been my daily driver/pride and joy the last 10 years. any insight would be greatly appreciated!

In addition, to what you've done, I'd give it a valve adjustment and check the timing again afterward. Make sure you have the diagnostic ports jumpered, to put it in 'base timing made'.

Then pull the tps harness plug and check resistance of the terminals against the chart in a repair manual.
