94 22re starts than dies when key let off

A buddy of mine has a 94 22re 2wd pickup. It has about 99k miles, and from our recollection never had the fuel filter changed. The problem is that he turns the key like he would go to start it and it runs. But then shuts off when he lets off of the key. But if he holds the key it will continue to run. I am pointing finger towards ignition switch but just wanted to double check my guess work! If you dont think ignition switch where would you start?

sounds like the air flow meter, there is a switch inside it that closes when the engine is started, the switch controls fuel pump operation, see if u can swap in a known good afm.

I have one on my truck so I will try that. But will the AFM cause it to stay running when the key is held on?

no thats on a seperate circuit that energizes the fuel pump when cranking, as soon as u stop cranking that circuit is hut off, and the afm circuit keeps the fuel pump running once the engine starts

Yeah that's a very good possibilty also, but the left side of my brain also says sense I can jump the pump the wires are good because when I jump it it stays running. So this is pointing to ignition switch is bad because it sends constent power to the pump after the truck is started, correct? Hell ill take any suggestions I also checked codes and I had 2431 I believe chilton said something about intake air temp sensor or something and the other is air flow meter signal..

the green and yellow wire to the afm controls the ground circuit to the circuit opening relay, with the vehicle running chack to see if that wire is grounded, do u have a voltmeter?
