94 22re intermittant engine problem

hey guys its my first post on here, great site!! i have a 94 yota 22re 4wd, engine was just rebuilt, has pacesetter header and all the egr has been removed/capped off. my truck will start up and run good every time when cold, but when i drive it around then shut it off its a different story. when i start it when warmed up it runs like crap. no power, barely runs, but if i shut it back off and restart its fine? it does this about 75% of the time. the only thing that i can think of is something electrical that resets with the ignition switch? what do you think? also i only get around 16 mpg? seems a little low to me, what do you think?

anyone?

It runs fine on a warm engine after you shut it off and start it again, or does it need to cool down? Have you had the computer tested by Toyota? Could be something amiss there.

no it does it when engine is warmed up, doesnt do after cool down. but if i shut off and restar immediatly it fixes it. do i just remove the ecu and take it in?

it could be that the computer/ECU is faulty which is why it only works on startup for a little while, and then runs badly... on startup it may be running on preset conditions and when things warm up, the computer takes over. Since the EGR system has been removed, its hard to say. The computer might need that system in place to function properly. In any event, you can take in and have it tested. Its located behind the passenger side kick panel under the dash.

Could also be a pinched or broken wire, or a bad sensor. I have a '94 and the fuel pump shorted out due to a bad wire. Was giving it full pressure all the time making it run rich time.

16 MPG is definitely not right. Should be at least 20, maybe 22 if the truck is stock (no oversize tires, etc).

Have you pulled codes to see if that shows anything?

i got a 94 4x4 and i put 31x10.5 in tires and my in city is 16 mpg. but i get 23-25 on high way so... i dont think that sounds to bad.

i asume it is someting electrical because it resets. it does have 31x10.50 tire but the 16 mpg is almost all highway. i will try geting the ecu tested

ya man something not right there. good luck
