93 toyota 4runner 3.0 engine replacement

I recently bought a 93 4runner with a 3.0 V6, with a bad engine in it. Before I thought of starting this thread I bought a low mileage Jap import engine from Tiger Japanese Auto Parts LTD. out of Toronto, ON, Canada. They had a pretty good deal on the Internet. Has anyone bought an engine or tranny from Tiger? Good or bad I would like to know what I might have got myself into. Does anyone have a recommendation for a place to by an engine the next time I do this?

If you search, wisdom you will find.

Plus, everyone will tell you if you are going to all the effort of swapping a motor, put in a 3.4 instead.

Will cost more now, but rewards will be great.

Why do I sound like Yoda this morning? :hillbill:

rollcage:

I looked at the tiger site.

Does the picture reflect what they sent you? If so you got a good deal. Based on the picture you are getting the complete motor including wiring harness, fan, intake plenum, etc. The description indicates from japan with only 25K on it. That is pretty much a new motor in my book.

I'd appreciate if you post again once you see the motor and have chance to look it over and cofirm you got what they indicate. I might be in the market for one of these eventually as well.

The motor didn’t appear to be the one in the picture, I say that because the intake plenum was a little discolored. But it did have everything on it. Only part of the wiring harness was good because they basically cut all of the wires, vacuum lines, and fuel lines, cables, etc. then pulled it out of the vehicle. I’ve got the engine and tranny in the 4runner, but not ready to start it yet. Saturday ill be able to finish it and fire it up. If everything seems to be ok, I’m going to do a comp. check to see how close my readings are to the specs in the book. I bought the tranny with the engine since it was only $190. I can say that the ATF looked real good, and the tail bearings were tight. I will post again when I see how it turns out. Thanks

Runs Great!

finally finished engine replacement and it runs great. I think the injectors may need a good cleaning though. The only thing that bugs me is the valve noise! I read all kinds of posts on this issue, but I?m not sure if I should go back into it and do a valve adjustment, or let the dealer mess with it. Its kind of loud and makes me nervous. The transmission that I bought with the engine works good as well. I would buy from Tiger Japanese again. Any advice on the valve tap? Thanks

I might be telling you something you know already....but fwiw.

3vze are known to have noisy injectors. Make sure first that is not what you are hearing. One trick mentioned on this board is to rev the motor up (by hand) to some 3000 or so rpm. Then release the throttle. Does the clicking go away? Apparently the fuel injectors get shut off while the engine spins down to idle.
