93 4runner engine removal i need help!
hi i recently posted a thread about tearing up my 1993 4 runner (its 4x4 has the 3.0 v6 and a manual trans) and now i am want to know the proper procedure on taking the whole engine out. what i need to disconect first what all i need to disconect how to do it... if you could either walk me through how to remove it or send me to a link that will show me that would be great!
also if you could give me a list of engines that will fit like what year 4runner or tacoma i could get either a 3.0 or a 3.4 out of that will fit in mine!
thank you

You've got a lot of options as far as engines, the inline supras aren't bad, the 3.4 liters are nice, shoot you could even go with a 302 if you wanted to invest in a body lift and the bellhousing adapter. As far as the engine removal goes, it depends on what you're transplanting in, if youre just gonna do a straight across swap with the same engine you're gonna want to label everything as far as those intake chamber lines and what not. When I did it I just used tape and label the line as 1 and where it went as 1, then just went up from there.

Not being an ass. But being straight up.
If your not sure exactly what all it takes or how to do it it might be your best idea to take it to a shop and let them install your new motor. nearly every shop around here charges 300$ in labor when installing a new motor. (its 1200$ to diy. And its 1500 for them to do it)
Likewise. If your not sure on that part. Maybe installing a diFferent motor other than the 3.0 isn't a good idea.
However if your intent on diy. Then the easiest way would be to wait until you have another motor ready to go in and switch everything over that way its fresh on your mind what goes where. You don't want to pull the motor now and not get another for 6 months and not know where stuff goes of something. Good luck.

Check out the engine swap section of this forum.
To remove the engine....
Disconnect battery cables from battery
Drain all fluids. ( radiator, motor oil ) You can leave the oil filter on.
Disconnect the upper and lower radiator hoses.
unbolts all the bolts from the bell housing of the transmission. There's a few you can't see and hard to get to if you don't have body lift.
There's two wire harnesses that's attached to the engine...one going to ECU, one branch off to transmision and O2 sensor....
Remove wiring harness by disconnecting them from the ECU ( passenger side kick panel ) and pull them through the firewall on the top passenger side.
Disconnect wires from O2 sensors, transmission, oil pressure sensor, AC switch,
Disconnect wires from starter, alternator, coil
Disconnect the vacumm lines on the passenger side of the intake manifold.
Disconnect the 2 heater hoses behind the engine...
Disconnect the fuel line on the passenger side.....located near the starter.
Drain and disconnect the power steering fluid lines.
Ac compressor...two choices...keep the compressor and make it work with the new engine or save the freon then disconnect the lines from compressor
remove the radiator
tape some 1/4" ply wood to the Ac condenser to protect it from getting banged up while removing/ installing engines.
I'm sure I've forgot something. I'm in the middle of doing 3.4 swap. That's just a list off the top of my head.

Yes the 90 3.0 should fit into your 93, minus the transmission. When swapping to a different trans there are other mods that need to be done. But as for the engines yes they should be a direct swap. If you want to do a 3.4 swap it requires some mods but can be done. and like ebrake92 said make sure you label all vacuum lines and wires. Taking pictures before removing anything helps alot also.
