93 3.0 auto gutless and sputtering running out of ideas

I bought this truck for cheap with a blown HG
I took it apart and changed the gaskets from the hg up, checked the valves, machined the head, put in new, cap, rotor, plugs, wires, fuel filter, camshaft timing is pefect (I retore it apart and rechecked it and it all lines up), set the ignition timing to 10 degrees but it is less gutless at 20-25 degrees BTDC,rechecked the wires to make sure they were in order, cleaned the throttle body, seems to run best with the tps where it is at (tried a bunch of different positions)banged my head against the wall....
it still is gutless and at low to mid rpms under acceleration it sputters bad just before it downshifts then when it down shifts so higher rpms it runs okay but still pretty gutless
please help me out what else can I do?
oh and I also checked for vacuem leaks with starting fluid and also a tube used as a stethescope

the guttless feeling you have is normal and can be cured if caught early enuff. lol
seriously i have a 93 with a 3.0 and auto
id like to help can you discribe how the engine runs at idle, just cruising and when you stomp on it

ok really just kidding up there
seems like you really may have a bad wire. did you check them with a spray bottle of water to see if maybe you have a bad one grounding out.
maybe a plugged egr try some seafoam in it might help blow some crap out of it
is it giving you any codes?

it seems to idle just fine (maybe a little high for idle) with no extra knocks or clicks or pings ect except the pressure regulator clicks kinda loud
all around the truck is gutless
when I step on it can roll through the gears okay until about 75 tops on flat ground
but if I roll through the gears and hold it at say 50 then try to accelerate so its at mid rpms it spudders horrible then once it downshifts it barely spudders at all
as far as engine sound when Im on the road at all it does not seem smooth well I used to have a 97 4runner 3.4 that seemed like a cadilac compared
this runs more like say an old 80s ford ranger
one thing I forgot to mention I did a compression test and the checked out with 130psi with the fuel on
thanks for the quick reply

Is the cat clogged? You said it was rattling. The cats can clog up and block flow.

What are your compression numbers per cylinder?

I put my hand at the end of the exuast and it seams to be blowing pretty hard so I dont know if it is clogged
how can you tell?
they were all around 130-135psi
and I was told that if the compression was checked with the fuel still on that it wuld show up lower than actual
so maybe 150ish consistantly

There is a procedure in the FSM for checking the compression that involves disabling the fuel and spark. 130-135 is low, but I have never checked it with the fuel on.

As for the cat, the only way I now how to tell if it is clogged is to cut it off upstream and look in there. You can buy a clamp on joint to put the exhaust back together. Maybe someone else knows of a better way to tell.

My parents had an Oldsmobile (piece of crap) that melted the cat. It took my dad a week to figure out that was the problem.

Good luck
