92 3.0 Cold Start Issue

It's getting colder here these days, just above freezing this morning. Went to start the truck and it stumbled just above start RPM but wouldn't fire. I let it sit with key on for maybe 30 seconds while I thought about the issue, thinking it may be a fuel pressure issue. Hit the starter again and it fired. OK I thought, fuel filter/pump issue. Started fine after work (let it sit with key on for 10 secs or so), went to local parts store and picked up a filter, left store, no start (warm). Sat for a second, started. So now I'm thinking a real fuel issue here, swapped filter (old was easy to blow air through), and a stumble start (but started!) occured.
OK, time to go under the hood. Thought I'd check the cold start injector, when I touched it the motor died! Wiggled the wire again the truck fired right up. The wire to the cold start seems to be under a little tension where it snakes under the intake plenum. Tried moving to the top and it was even tighter. The truck does have a 2" body lift, so that may be causing a little clearance problem.

I guess what I need to know is, if the cold start is not connected (even if truck is warm) should the motor die?

It seems like a wire problem, since I moved the wire (by stretching, not disconnecting) from below to above and back I can wiggle the injector connector as much as I want and it won't die.
Any other idea's as to what is causing a cold start problem (which may not actually be cold start related).

TTT!

Did I stump everyone? Or am I just a little off the way?!?!?

Wow! I can't believe I didn't even get 1 reply. No matter (for now), the problem seems to have gone away.:dunno:

Having the same issue

2 cool mornings in a row (with lots of dew on the windows ~50 deg F) the truck would crank for about 20 secs with barely a spudder. sat a couple secs then Vroom. Its been running rich/lean (code 25 and 26) lately not sure if that's a symptom or the cause of the underlying problem. Thinking O2 sensor, but perhaps this Cold start is stuck open as others have mentioned, would that keep pouring fuel into the truck all day?

Would love to see other posts about the cold start injector and where it is and what its supposed to do.
I have a FSM but for a 87, doesn't cover the 3.0 engine.
Thanks,
-Bill
