91 SR5 Pick-Up Radio "Stock?" Swap - Write up and Pics
I searched all of the threads here and google as well and could not find a definitive answer to fix my radio issues. So this may help some one else
New to me 1991 Toy PU SR5 has all the toys power locks/windows A/C ahhhh a must in the summer even in Colorado and planning trips to Moab in the spring and summer too..
Well the PO had some type of amp installed under the passenger front seat and at first I though this was the reason for the radio to come on but no sound. Every thing seemed to work ie. tape, CD (hehe yeah I know did not come from the factory that way)
After digging in to it on Sunday and reconnecting things back to factory (BTW it looks like the Original Radio and CD cam from a late 90's 4Runner from what I can tell off Ebay and Craigslist) still no sound.
I like the factory look and I am also not in to (nor have the $$) for a Thumping sound system. So off to Craigslist and ebay to find something cheap..
Now not sure if its me or my searches but found bub-kiss , nada, nothing..
Then I remembered we had a 1994 or 1996 Toy Corolla a few years back and if memory serves correctly I swapped the radio for an aftermarket at the time. (knew there was a reason to never throw anything out.... )
Eureka found it ... the Corolla radio is model number AS1400 and the radio that was in the PU was a 56401..
The nice thing about the AS1400 is that it also had the barrel plug for the CD but is sans the Tape Player (Who uses tapes any more?? or 8-Track for that matter?)
Here are some pic's of the Radio's if your interested it appears Toyota did not change the electrical hook up's for quite a few years.. So if your DIN has the same 2 connectors you may be set.. for an "UpGrade"
