91 Pickup 4x4 22re vacuum hose?
I just bought a 91 Toyota Pickup 4x4 it has the 22re motor. on the back driver side of the intake, there are 2 round "plugs" i guess you can call them with vacuum lines hooked up to them. the rear one has three vacuum lines two are hooked up to other parts and the third one is capped off with a drywall screw... I cannot find anything missing a vacuum line. there is also a electrical plug in the same area not hooked up to anything and I cannot find where it goes. Can anyone help me figure out where these go and if there is something missing on the engine. Is there any test plugs on the intake system? Thanks

Mine are capped too. I actually broke one of the caps off myself & put a screw in one.
|
I can understand your concern seeing a drywall screw...not exactly factory:alert:.
But my 86 has the same setup near a s I can tell. (Minus the screw) The third vacuum line is plugged with a cap. The other 2 go to a vsv and the fuel rail dampener. The electrical plug may be for factory AC or some other option you don't have. I can remember spending days trying to figure out where that plug went. :bang: How does she run? Any codes? And welcome to yotatech! |
no codes. and it has ac so the plug is not that. when i set timing right it wont pull up hills. the valves were set wrong. two intake were set as ex and vice versa. dont know if that will cause this. i,m gonna adjust them tomorrow.
|
when you set the timing did you jump the te1 and te pins? and yea doing the valves adjustment is a very good idea as well cause they being out to much can cause poor pulling power.
|
Yea i jumped the connector. i set timing to 5 degrees btdc and that is as far as the dist will go one way is that common?
|
the capped off plug is for modles with an automatic trans :great:

Ok warmed truck adjusted valves set timing and it is still a little sluggish. replaced cap and rotor 10 dollar plug wire set from orilley auto parts. ngk plugr gapped at .031. i am baffled i have to retard dist way past timing marks to get power but then it doesnt want to turn over when i turn key.

I have timing set around 12 or a little more past. is that healthy for the motor? i know the motor is a lot quieter since i adjusted the valves. i jvst want it to run good and get better gas mileage. i am wondering if the cheap plug wires is making it sluggish.
|
Ok the dist will only turn toward top dead center 5 degrees before which is where it says to set it. but no pulling power. i set it to the left edge of mark plate which i.m guessing is about 15 degrees btdc. still a little sluggish would it hurt to retard it more?

So, start the engine, put the jumper in...
and does the idle change? does the timing change (yes, you'll have to check the timing before and after putting the jumper in)? If the idle and/or timing do not change when you insert the jumper, check the TPS (throttle position sensor) adjustment. |
Ok no change. i unhooked tps and checked bottom two terminals on sensor with ohm meter and got nothing even with throttle all way open.so this means its bad right? if so would this cause it to not pull with timing set right? i am not getting any codes when i check
|
Ok i check tps and maf sensors like haynes book says and one terminal on each is not reading. i called local junk yard and they said if parts good and i take them off 50 bucks for both beats 315 for them at autozone
|
Ok got a working tps but i cant fing a working afm. pulled one off a mazda. same plug just bigger inlet and outlet. going to get a cone filter adaptor and make a restrictor plate to reduce air flow. unless anybody has a better idea. when i pulled tb there is a thick oily film in intake. what can i do about this. will that affect power?
|
this thing? 3 port filter
i'm having some high idle issues and wondering if this is the reason
http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f2...IMG_9415-1.jpg should this thing be capped, i can't find a loose hose anywhere? - this is off a 93 22re 4x4 manual no a/c no cruise control |
That location is not always used. My 94 2wd no cruise is capped. My 87 Runner with cruise control uses it.
