This idiot out of state kid was lost trying to get to a friends house and decided to stop right in front of me to make a left hand turn. Needless to say, the truck didn't stop in time. I hit him at around 12 mph (according to my GPS log). Since I was the rear vehicle in this case, it is presumed to be my fault. I guess I'll take my hit with the insurance company.

The push bar on my SORD bumper got scuffed. Thanks to Sky for an awesome bumper. I can only imagine how much damage a stinger bumper would have done.

As someone who has been hit from behind at least 4 times, most recently while using a drive-up ATM machine (I damn near lost an arm) I have to say I have mixed feelings about this incident.

Glad your truck in still in good shape though. Maybe I should install a winch like that on my battered rear bumper just for the collision protection.

Obviously, I wished it never happened. My wife got hit in my old car by a minivan, the car looked the same way. The difference was, the minivan was accelerating into her. An ATM would be the last place I would think of getting rear-ended though. Glad you still have your arm.

Honestly, I don't care about the blame. I was replaying my GPS log, and we were only going about 30 mph around a turn right before this happened. The guy in the car was clearly going to make his left turn, but suddenly changed his mind to wait for slow traffic coming from the other direction. His abrupt change in judgement, and my inability to stop makes me feel it is a no fault incident, but it would never hold up.

His car is by no means totalled, I've seen worse get repaired like new.
Everyone was okay and walked away. That's what is most important to me.

good marketing for the SORD bumper!!!

I totaled a celica with my k1500 years back. everyone was fine, it was my fault, but it was nice to just have to replace the bow-tie to bring mine back to original condition.

I was involved in an accident in my old car where I hit a car from behind. Their car wasn't too badly damaged, but my Accord was totaled.

I did not have collision insurance on the car at that point. My insurance company did pay out to the other driver, but I was not assessed any points on my driving record. I do not know how that happened, but I can only assume it wasn't ruled 100% my fault.

I had been driving through a construction zone on the highway in the middle lane and I had exactly one car length between myself and the car in front of me. As the car in front of me started to hit its brakes, the minivan sitting in the left lane decided to swerve in between myself and the car in front of me. Naturally I didn't have anywhere to go.

If you are very careful in the explanation in the police report and explain the situation, you may not end up being 100% at fault in the accident.

Gee, with those scuffs on your bumper, you should just send it my way and get a new one though. You can't have scuffs, and I will save you from having to worry about what to do with your old bumper. Plus, I just broke my ankle, so you'd be helping the disabled!

I understand your feelings on the whole issue, but I wanted to just interject a personal story.

I love it. This is just another great thing about trucks and more specifically, trucks with offroad bumpers. Note to self check out SORD bumpers.

Other than the scuffs, the bumper did not move. I just got it last month, along with a sweet deal on Amazon for this Smittybilt XRC 8, complete with 100' of synthetic rope (pics on my first recovery are on the product page).

I really wanted a winch bumper that didn't drastically change the body lines, and goes well with my slider made out of 2 1/2" square tubing. And although it was a little pricey, I think it definitely has Warn beat on the durability and craftmanship. The best part was that the shipping across the country was under $80 (might have something to do with the UPS hub 10 miles from me).

To Sky, another big thank you for a very well built bumper! If I still had my stocker on, I'd probably be looking for a grille. among other things.

Now if they only made a rear to match.

It bolts on to the stock four holes on the sides, and four more on the front crossmember. I asked Sky about whether I needed to weld a reinforcement on, and I quote "As to the reinforcement, I have yet in 7 years to see a need for it..."

haven't had any problems with it moving during any winching pulls?

i only ask because i'm getting an XRC-10 comp series and just don't want that dude to budge...lol

i know the front crossmember is WEEK....guess i could "rebuild" it and make it stronger..then bolt up the bumper.

that is one of the most awesome things ive ever seen. I wish i had pictures of it but I had a 78 F250 4x4 highboy with a massive steal bumper sorta like yours, and a lincoln from down the street backed into it bad enough to shove his corner panel into his back door...all I had to do to fix my truck was get a sharpie and color in the tiny scratch in the bumper. Was sweet.

Good thing everyone came out ok. Including the bumper. How'd the winch handle the impact?

The winch surprisingly was unharmed, as was the synthetic rope. The solenoid got bumped just a little, nothing would have happened to it at all if it was mounted on the motor.

I have used it twice; once to self recover with an offest pull on a tree, and using it to pull bundles of 8' long logs out of the woods for firewood. No issues at all.
