91 22RE Should my Oil Pressure Warning light come on when disconnected?

91 22RE OIl Pressure Warning Light

When the key is turned to the start position the Warning Light is illuminated.
When I start the engine the light goes off and stays off while the engine is running.

I got curious and disconnected the sending unit while the engine was running.
The Warning Light light didn't come on.
Is that normal?

This is the newest vehicle I've owned so how the idiot light functions is a mystery to me.

Just found someone mentioning that the wire should be touched to ground to test it for proper function. If touched to ground it should come on.

Just found how to test it here http://personal.utulsa.edu/~nathan-b.../6combinat.pdf
page BE-37

If the switch is unplugged it can not work

Yes the warning light is a switch that opens when a very small amount of pressure is detected like 4 psi

Oil pressure drops below 4psi the switch closes the light comes on.

Hence the term Idiot light !!I would hate to be driving along and the light come on things are already most likely Fubared!!

Not so much for you Odin but the others.

Where's a good place to mount it?

I normally mount gauges under the dashboard toward the middle but it looks like I'd have to make a custom bracket for that.
I also thought about mounting it under the dashboard near my leg but it looks like it might get in the way. On top of the dashboard is out of the question.

Can`t help you there mine are all on top of the dash.

I like them there it is a personal preference .

Mounted in Silicone if I ever need to take it off a sharp knife and then some clean up .

What about a Pillar Pod?? I got one and just never liked the look of it.

I put my water temp gauge under the dash. Hasn't been a problem. Never hit it.

grumpin- That is one of the places I was talking about mounting it. The lower panel where you have your gauge is different than mine. Mine extends down further making it a bit of a pain to mount there.

Maybe if I stored my panel and cut that area out on a donor.
I'll have to look and see what's behind there.
Not too eager right now, weather is hot again.

I'd REALLY like to have a good console to mount oil & water gauges into plus a couple of cup holders further back toward the seat.

Verified the idiot light circuit is functioning correctly. That doesn't mean the sending unit is still within specifications though. I didn't see how to test for that.

Yes, I agree on the console. Not much room though. I have seen pictures of some neat consoles people have made though. I was thinking of sticking that gauge on the dash with velcro on the gauge and dash and inclinometer. But its mechanical and I didn't want to kink the line.
