'90 22RE Pickup Chugging and dieing off the line
Thread title pretty much sums it up... anyone have any ideas?
it seems to be running rich.
also worth me mentioning this is an intermittent problem but it has been getting worse and leaving me stranded in intersections. Light will turn green and the truck chuggs and then dies..
This problem only occurs under load and has happened at cruise when the gear in use is two high. If I downshift and run the RPM high I never have the problem.
TIA

Truth on all counts here.
The rad and overflow took about a half gallon of coolant. Could be because the heater core wasn't full the last time it was bled. Who knows. Oil looks normal.
Ignition timing is way early. Off the scale. Weird because I haven't adjusted it and the distributor is tight.
I jumped T1 and TE1 and couldn't get it in test mode though. Very strange. I will mess with it more tomorrow
thanks for the input

Oh and still chugging some on the way back from the store after adding some coolant.
maybe the timing is more the culprit but weird because I haven't messed with timing in a long time.
temps have recently dropped significantly here for what it's worth

Still at it..
Something is definitely up with the cooling system..
it has been overheating, boiling over the rad and then a full overflow bottle. Possibly overfilled it last time when I noticed it was low.
Could ice in the cooling system cause that? I suspect the antifreeze I was running in it was pretty diluted.
the last time it did this I couldn't get it to start again. The time before that it eventually started again but seemed flooded badly before that.
For what it's worth I have been keeping it plugged in to a freeze plug block heater over night. It gets cold here.. 0F, -10C or so

Update: got it started. I believe the MAF plug was loose.
I have new plugs and a new air filter in it now and for some reason I can't get the timing in spec anymore..
Just got back from putting 10 miles or so on it .
Not overheating, starts right up, runs terrible. Very bad power off the line and under load (up hill.). Same issue I have always had but worsening
Timing is up against the stop and it's getting me 8BTDC, spec is 5.
I retarded the timing off the scale to near where it used to be and I'm getting much better throttle response under no load. Strange
Maybe I need to clear the ECU?? Seems like a long shot.
