89 4runner V6 hesitating badly
I have an almost new motor in my 4runner, the truck has 158K and the motor only has 5K on it. I filled it up with gas at a 76 station over the weekend and it is now running really rough with almost no power under 2500 rpm. Since then I have run nearly all of the fuel out and refilled with shell super and added a can of sea foam. The hesitation has gotten slightly better, but my old girl still ain't right. Has anybody else had this problem. Maybe the timing of gassing up was a coincidence? Fouled plugs? How would I check the injectors? mass air flow sensor? fuel filter is was changed with the new motor....could it be fouled up already? Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.
thanks,
Greg

You can get gas that has a bunch of dirt in it if you fill up just after, or during, the refilling of the station tank. The truck pumping all that gas into the storage tank can cause the dirt on the bottom to swirl around and get distributed in the fuel. I have also had a fuel filter get totally fouled with just one tank full after getting bad gas. With your timing, I'd think the filter is plugged. Try changing it and see if the problem goes away.
