re: wiring harness

the ECU dictates what injectors you can run. you need to cross-reference the ECU # you are running.

just my experience, but i saved a real basket case 1985 years ago. electrical was butchered would not run at all. i bit the bullet and went with this:

http://www.jameng.com/products/1975%...TCEaAq7l8P8HAQ

and it ran like a champ. 3 vacuum lines, no electrical anything. uses a standard 22r intake manifold. that kit is very well sorted and it's a straight bolt-on.

Your easiest route would be what Flame Thrower posted above. When it comes to swapping harnesses, 84-88/89 all have at least one thing different. Get an entire donor truck is my suggestion. Here is a thread that I made for these trucks https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...4-88-a-278925/ It is missing a few steps but should give you an idea of what you are getting into and that is staying with a harness that is all from one truck. It is a big job and then trying to make different years work with each other is a whole new set of problems. Where I removed the 22r stuff is still mostly similar of what you will need to do. More complete info then what I found and still has room for improvement.

Any updates on this thread?

I have the exact same problem. I bought an 88 ext cab 4x4 22re that someone had swapped a 93 22re into . . . poorly. Truck ran when I bought it but not well. Truck came with a basket of parts including a "working" 88 computer. I checked the computer in the 88 and its also an 88 computer. So I have two 88 computers. When they did the swap they didn't keep the 88 plenum/intake sensors and injectors. They went with the 93 intake and did something with the wiring to get it to the 88 computer. It wasn't firing on 4th cylinder, compression was bad. The oil was blacker than coal. It was really beat up.

I brought it to a Toyota genius friend of mine and he put 88 injectors in it with custom wiring and it now runs ok. It dies after idle after running for a little bit. The clutch is gone and the transmission/transfer case are on last legs.

So I bought an 87 donor truck for $700 only to find that the motor on that was blown. I have the transmission and transfer case. They're good. The rest is junk. I then donated the 87 intake/plenum to my Toyota genius friend cause he needed it for the sensors. I was thinking I'd just go find a better intact 88 donor motor. I also realized that that 87 and the 88 are not exactly that same. Turns out these 88s are impossible to find!

So I ended up buying another 93 22re. I bought it because it was $300 and I have it running in the donor truck and it runs perfectly. 90k miles on it. I put a scope into the cylinders through the plug holes and I can see the cross hairs on the cylinder walls. Its a nice engine. Now all I have to do is unravel the mess in this 88 and get that 93 in there. I'd much rather have the 88 intake/sensors with the 88 harness and just use the new block/head from the 93 but I don't have those parts.

I see Flame Thrower posted a link to a solution but that link doesn't work any more.

Ideally I'd like to put as much of the 93 into the 88 as possible: engine, transmission, transfer case, harness, computer. The engine bay on the 93 is a gold mine and the engine bay in the 88 is trash.

I considered using the 93 computer and rewiring the dash/chassis circuits but that's two thirds of the wiring (so many wires) and everyone I talk to about it tells me I'm crazy.

The reasonable thing to do seems to be to put the whole 93 motor, with the 88 injectors, into the 88 and rewire the engine to the 88 computer. Aside from the 88 injectors, is there anything else on the 93 motor I should be worried about in terms of connecting to that 88 computer?

At some point I'm going to just start ripping into it. I've done a few 22re rebuilds / swaps but never an 88 to 93. If anyone has an 88 motor they'd like to trade for a 93 I'll pay the freight.

Thanks
