88 2wd Pick-up front mud flaps..?
 

I've been lurking on ebay and have ventured to the Toyota dealer... I'm curious to find the front mud flaps for an 88 Toyota pick-up 2wd. The "factory" ones I might add. I've seen a lot of these trucks and never really seen any with the front mud flaps... I really want them.. Toyota shows a part # however they are discontinued... so no hope there... wondering if they even exist..? If anyone has a front set for sale I would gladly buy... wondering if anyone has any picks of the OEM front mud flaps for 84-88 2wd pick-up..?

I have them on my 1987 2WD. I bought them many years ago at the local dealer and they still look great.

To me they really improve the looks of the body. Toyota did a nice job of designing the flaps.

I wouldn't be able to take any pictures of them on my truck until sometime this weekend.

I'm so jealous... that's why I want them because it gives the truck a good look. More of a "rugged" good truck look. Wish I could get ahold of some really bad... I don't even care the cost of them... I just want em... >_< I cant even find them... can't even find any pics.

I see 'em in pick-n-pulls all the time! I've been looking for a 4wd set for a long time (at a reasonable price) and everytime someone tells me they have a set in the yard, they turn out to be the 2wd version... They are out there, you just gotta go looking ;)

So I finally found some OEM Mud Flaps for my 88. Gosh they were hard to find. :D

I just came upon this thread and now I want some for my 2wd! I really like the look. Time to start searching...

87 you'd be better off making your own its not hard at all all you need is a jig saw and a single mud flap off a semi. Because there very hard to.find, although mightymouse might be able to hook you up if you want oem.

Not that its any help but my little 85 had them when I bought it. i'm pretty sure they ended up in the trash. Bummer.

I'm still looking. What was the part number? Where did you get them?

A few years later after I posted here, and after searching everyday for a set, I found someone selling a set of New Old Stock mudgards on eBay. They come with the necessary hardware for installation.

They look great! :great: I absolutely love them!

It has been a few years since then and I have to say the mudguards definitely keep the dirt off of the doors compared to not having them!

Here are the part numbers:

As said above, both have been discontinued by Toyota and I was lucky to find unopened originals.

There are some aftermarket versions that come in a Front and Rear set from Thailand up on eBay. They don't look as nice as Genuine Toyota Mudguards but may be better than beat up 30+ year old originals.

Thanks for a very helpful and informative reply. Looking forward to seeing the pictures -- in particular, how the mudguards attach. It's not clear to me at all looking at my fenders.

I ran out of daylight yesterday so here are the pictures today.

This is for Two Wheel Drive models.

Each mudguard attaches with three screws. If I remember correctly (it has been a few years since installation), two of the screws already hold the fender liner in place. All you need to do is remove the two screws in the fender liner ( the ones with arrows pointing to the left) and line up the holes in the mudguard with the holes in the fender liner and reinstall the screws. For the third screw in the bump-out part, there is a square hole in the body mount bracket where a yellow retainer gets inserted. Then you install the last screw into the yellow retainer.

The yellow retainer is the same type that you can see if you open up your hood and look at the fenders. The fender liner attaches to the wheel wells with those same yellow retainers with screws.

I believe the part number for the yellow retainer is 90189-06027.

Interestingly, the parts diagram shows a different clip in place of the yellow retainer for that screw, but I think that the retainer shown in the diagram is swapped with one of the other two, behind the fender liner.

The lighting in my driveway would not let me take a good picture of how the mudguards look on the truck. Every time a got a wide enough shot, the mudguards would be too shadowed to show up in the pictures, so here is a picture from last year:

I plan on removing the fender liner and cowl over winter to clean out the drain holes and will take pictures of how everything is held together behind the fender liner then.
