Hey everyone, I have a friend who is having possible AFM issues on his 22RE, so thought I'd check mine for ˟˟˟˟s n' grins. Turns out mine might be close to failing as well!

According to the FSM, everything tests within spec, EXCEPT for the E2 to Vs (the voltage that measures the air flow). It tested as open (infinite resistance), but it ran fine before I parked it due to transmission work.
So I open up the AFM by cutting the silicone on the top plate, turns out if just the slightest pressure is applied to the contacts of the wiper, I get resistance within spec (See photo).



So I'm curious, is there anything that can be done to give a little better connection to the carbon wiper surface? Are these rebuildable, though where would I even get parts? Do I just slightly tweak and bend the copper wiper to connect more solidly?
I assume that there may have been a good enough connection while voltage was applied for the wiper contact to arc the proper voltage to the wiper carbon surface, but I'm hoping some here might have more experience.

edit: For what it's worth, this is a 22RE with close to 308,000 miles.

Things wear with age I would bend it

Look around for a AFM with lower miles then something else might be worn.

Transmission problems fixed??

I'll be toying around with bending then. If I really mess it up, there's a couple of local AFM's for $75 here at a salvage yard.

As for my transmission, it was just worn gears and counter-shaft bearings going. I've got a Marlin Crawler rebuild on the way!
