I agree.
Started off with sheet metal from home depot but it sucked. Buddy had an old ford hood I cut pieces out of.
I have a couple of spots I didn't grind the metal enough, gonna re-do some spots when it cools off more.

Replaced the old cluster with an SR5 cluster.
Took all of 30 minutes from start to finish!

A few pic of building the roll bar.

I wanted to keep the bed liner so I cut it to fit.
My wife came up with a good idea of using fiberglass cloth to make form fitting boots reseal the liner.

My attempt at repairing my dash. I didnt remember to take any pictures of the damage(my bad).
Started off by filling in the pocket.I never used it in 30 years and I'm thinking of installing a gauge pod for a set mechanical gauges.
I used fiberglass and bondo in lifts to fill in the cracks and pocket.
Final skim coat was just bondo. Everything bonded like a rock.

With my wife's help we found Marine vinyl at Joann's fabrics for $19 per yard.(wife had a 50% off coupon) It measured 36"x52" for $8.50
I used 3m 77 spray glue. Total cost for all the material was $40 out the door.

Nice! Exactly how I plan to fix mine. I never use the pocket either since the 80's when I watched a nice fountain pen slide off and fly out the window at a turn. LoL!
Wasn't it hard to make the vents fit? No wrinkles there?

With the vents I had to take the locking tabs off. I cut an "X" in the opening and folded the material in. I simply pushed the vents in the opening. Its a very snug fit.
I ended up cracking a couple of the vents, 30 year old plastic. After I install the gauges I plan to look for a fix for the tabs.

BTW, did you also use plain bondo to fill the pocket?

I used the long hair fiberglass bondo mix and a skim coat of plain bondo to finish it off smooth.

Looks really good. I still haven't seen your truck on the road while I'm out and about. Did you remove any of the old plastic leaving just the foam exposed, or just scuffed up what was there?

Nice job on fixing the dash! Many years ago I had a black single cab 88 with those exact same wheels, and I even had a chrome roll bar in the bed! I traded it in when i bought a new car, kicked myself ever since.
