Hello to all, new member here. Sorry if i break any rules ,ive been on many other sites just not this one.
My son recently bought an 87 pickup 4x4 with a 22r. Cold, it wouldnt start without cranking twenty times or more. Pumping the accelerator did nothing.I pulled the vacuum line from the aap and fuel ran out of line. I also noticed the rivets had been ground of the choke retainer ring and after i removed the cap you could see the spring and coil were on the wrong side of the choke lever! Needless to say, the carb is off and i'm rebuilding now. I'm using a walker kit (15827a). Anyone tell me where you adjust the choke? The cover is notched and i think the coil has gotten a little weak causing the plate to not close completely. I cant remember if i bent the rod or the lever in the past. Its been at least fifteen years since ive hung my professional hat and im a little rusty........thanks for any advice. Ill post more as i go..if anything jumps out please comment on it.

1. ALL screws were loose.
2. Primary acc. pump spring missing.
3. Choke coil not hooked up to lever.
4. NEW gaskets,diaphrams and float installed by PO. or shop.Float set incorrectly.


The PO(an 11th grader) told my son he had just had some work done. The head is really clean, and there are new gaskets on intake and exhaust manifolds and the timing cover leading me the believe someone may have repaired a blown head gasket or timing issue. I hate working after incompetent people. Looks like we'll check that stuff next.


If any of you knowledgable guys know the vacuum system on this 87 4x4, and want to share, please comment on items i should check for. There is no emission sticker, but im familiar with the components. Thank again, Brett
