87 4X4 Brake and Charge Light staying on after working on brake light switch
Hey everybody back again with my "gem*" 1987 Toyota 4x4 Pick up. Standard truck with 5 speed transmission, Standard cab with a bench seat, power steering and AC..
The brake lights kept coming on all by them selves (or I didn't notice when I left.) So I climbed under the dash and readjusted the brake light switch and fixed it, but I screwed something else up big time! Now when I start the truck up my brake warning light and my charge lights stay on.
The brake warning light comes on like it is supposed to when I have the parking brake set, but when I release the parking brake the brake warning light flashes and dims a little, but stays on. When I set the parking brake the brake warning light brightens a little bit. Basically the brake warning light is staying on just like it would if the reservoir is low.
The charge light is on when I turn my key on and stays on when the truck is running. So I checked and my battery is not being charged.
I can't imagine that my alternator went out at the same time that I adjusted the brake light. No clue what the deal is with the brake light.
Is it possible that I shorted something and blew a fuse?
I did crawled back under my dash and nothing jumps out at me as to what I might have done. I can see nothing unplugged, broken wires or anything else undone. But I did not stay out there very long as it was 107 degrees at the time...
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me,
grey

Finally able to het back to working on my truck, so I checked the fuses and the good news is all my fuses are good, that is also the bad news too!
Hanging down above the fuse block is a pink wire and a purple terminating at a white plug? Any clues what/where this goes? I am too big across the shoulders to easily get under the dash, so this is quite painful, plus we are have 110 degree heat this week...
I have determined no power to the battery, how do I test my alternator to see if it is good or not? Might be good to know if my problem is an alternator that went out when I worked on the brake switch...

Typical Toyota 22R Charge and Brake light on due to bad alternator...
Not sure how I managed to do this, but my alternator went... It was the typical Toyota 22R Charge and Brake light coming on because the alternator went bad,,,
I pulled both alternators, mine in my truck (attached to the 85 engine I put in the 87 4x4) and the one on the old engine (that I pulled out of the 87 dead) and took them both down to have them tested and sure enough my alternator(85) was bad. I know I put a set of brushes in that old alternator 10 years ago. It was the alternator that was in the 85 when I bought it in 2001, I know I put over 60,000 miles on that alternator... So who knows...
Thanks for the help,
