87 22r smokes all the time

Im gonna go look at a pickup tomorrow and it smokes all the time but only two plugs have oil on them? rings, valve train? The owner never has done a compression test. Its a 87 std cab 22r, southern truck supposedly rust free and had a clutch put in a year ago and is asking 1900. Im just wanting an idea what im getting my self into.

Smoke

I would do a compression test to start but that sounds like rings. The good thing about a 22r is it can be rebuilt for cheap. 1900 is overpriced with a questionable engine.

I would do a compression test before settling on buying it. As far as the price it is all about where you live and what condition the truck is in. Yea you can rebuild a 22r fairly cheap compared to other engines. The price should go with the results of the compression test, but the cheaper the better.

Yea that price is high for that mileage. I wouldn't pay over 1k maybe 1200 if its rust free. I live in the south so I don't know how much people are willing to pay up north for "rust free" trucks.
I think the numbers should be around 160-180. I guess when you say wet when you put oil in the cylinder? When you put oil in the cylinders it seals the rings up (if they were bad) and shows you if the valves are leaking.

Also if the engine needs to be rebuilt your looking at about 1k if you do most of the work yourself. A lot of people say a 22r is cheap to rebuild but the little things add up. The rebuild kit might only cost a few hundred but its all the other things too.
I noticed a 84 extra cab for 2500obo in your area in case you didn't see it.

well lol I have 2 cabs for this truck and a extra wiring harness and a ecu and a fuel tank(project truck) I would think I could make my money back parting it out but who knows. I don't know how much work this all is but i guess if i do end up buying it ill just run it till she blows then swap it. I just don't understand why are only 2 plugs wet with oil?

Rings can go out at any time. Could have been from dirt in the intake or spark plug tip breaking off and scratching the walls up bad. It might have sat up and the rings stuck or something. There's really no telling lol

I think I might risk it, really looking for a dd(currently driving a 97 ram 1500 a whole 11mpgs). I guess ill just keep a quart in the cab with me like my last vehicle (Dang really wanting to get away from that lol) I suppose it might be worth a shot, it is really hard to find a good body up in iowa, or just finding one with a box haha.

Yea that sucks about the daily driver. Just try and get it as cheap as possible. I'd keep more then a quart at one time depending on how far you drive lol
Have you considered a car if you conserned about gas mileage?

Then came a fresh motor along with some nitrous and drag radials. was my school car till i got sick of the whole 15 mpg but hey it ran 8.7s 8.8s with 75 wet shot in the eight mile!!! Now i want a small 5spd truck again and i thought toyota was the way to go for offroading and mpgs!

I bought her. 1400 bucks. Smokes alot and comp test goes as 100 155 100 165. I'm gonna guess it needs motor but it truely is rust free and the tires are half tread.
