87 -- 22r rebuild -- Disaster with Airfilter butterfly screw!!!

All,
after doing a head rebuild on my friends '87 22R, we discovered a real mess up.
Back in Sept, 09. We did a full head rebuild, new head gasket, complete valve job. Top end gasket, head gasket, etc. This truck started up, but idled bad. My friend went ahead and had his dad rebuild the carb.

A few week later, we got together to put the newly rebuild carb on, fine tune the truck, and make final adjustments.

When I went to lock down the air-filter the large main air filter hold down bolt was not there. We looked everywhere for it.

Come to find out today, that damn bold ended up sucked inside of the engine.

The bolt was broken in two, with part lodged in the intake valve for cylinder one. The other part of the bolt made it into cylinder number two. The head was damaged inside of cylinder number two. Other then that, the head looks good, maybe except for intake valve on cylinder number one, it maybe bend. No cylinder walls were damaged. There is damage to piston number two, but all others are fine.

Question: Can we use the piston, with slight amount of damage, only on the top?

Question: Is the head rebuildable, and if so, how much would you say a resonable amount cost, I think the only thing that needs to be done is metal filler needs to be welded to the head, and then machined down or grinded to the original profile.

Please rely with any bit of information that you may have.

One of my boys had that same problem long time ago, after rebuild the 22r, He put a weber carb. and a fancy air cleaner, few days later, one of the cleaner bolts came lose n fell inside. one of the pistons and the head, got pitted off. He bought a used head for $50, 1 new piston $25, + the gasket set. was less than $200.total I did the job on exange of his stupid air cleaner. wich I throwed in the trash can. just learn from your mistakes, and think that it could be worst.:chair:
