86 2wd clutch issue...

OK. You already know I have an 86 2wd pickup. Engine swapped for an 82 22r with a 5 speed trans. The clutch is working mostly fine but the engagement is at the very top of the pedal travel and it sometimes slips a little when it's hot (80+) outside. It feels like the clutch doesn't quite fully engage. The hydraulic fluid shows full in the reservoir. Any thoughts?

Thanks for the help.

These trucks are known to have issues with the plate that attaches to the fire wall, holding the clutch in place. Mine cracked probably 10 years ago and a few years back, started to get worse and worse. I kept adjusting the pedal farther and farther out until it cracked completely and the whole clutch pedal fell on the carpet.

Go under there with a flashlight and push the pedal with your hand. If you see the plate move at all, it's cracked (or loose) and needs to be welded back to the firewall. If it doesn't move, try adjusting the pedal by rotating the push rod that goes through the firewall so when fully pressed, it provides more pressure to release the clutch (you'll also need to adjust the play at the pedal height adjust screw so that it's not engaged all the time).
