86 22R loosing coolant and some unusual pressure being held in coolant system

Truck has about 145k miles and loosing a liter of coolant every 100 miles. Also there seems to be some unusual pressure being held in the coolant system with the engine completely cold. The truck can stay parked for days and when checking the radiator cap, you get the shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh sound of pressure coming out.

I havent noticed any wet obvious- outside- leaks, mostly just old residue from an old leak on the radiator, thermostat housing etc.

Oil seems clean too.

any ideas?

If we drive the truck every day for aweek without topping it off, it completely runs out of coolant !

My only guess would be a small crack inside the cylinder head near a valve and water passage? But Im really hoping for a different conclusion ..

truck is running good. though Im not so sure about the engine sounds. sounds like a sew machine at low rpms compared to my ex 89 22RE that was completely fuel injected.

well well nevermind i did find a leak this morning on top of the radiator where the shroud is. ill address that first and see if the pressure is an issue in the coolant system after that.

sorry

Was that your leak? My 83 pickup has a coolant issue as well. I was completely empty on saturday and filled up to the fill mark and as now I am at half way. I see no obvious leaks but I did notice when I changed out my rear output shaft seal on the transfer case it looked like a little bit of antifreeze came out when I took the old seal off.

i think our trucks are supposed to have a metal seal on the back of the head. we should probably check it out
