83 thirds in 90 truck

I have a friend who has a 83 yota 20r 4x4 solid axle. I have a 90 22re ifs would his 529 thirds bolt to my 90?

The rear will but the front won't. The 90 front is an IFS third member and his front is for a solid front axle.

Im just curios what is the difference? Is the housing completely different?

yes, it will.... however you need to do a small modification first.

The front differentials on IFS trucks are supposedly 7.5" -- same as on 2wd 1/2 ton trucks.

But you can't swap any solid axle third into an IFS third so that won't work either.

Well i just might use the rear and wait for the front.. I need to step up gears soon. Driving through the mountains suck

you can however use an IFS Lock Right in the rear of 2wd trucks

I know there are plenty of sites for gears what would you recomend for 5.29 for my application. I do have a press and all

I wouldn't quite say that. In most situations, 2wd w/ rear locker is equal or better than 4wd open.

5.29s for 33s with a 5spd, 5.71s with auto.

Why don`t you get the solid front axle from your friend and swap it into your truck ?, with that and the gears you will be set.

I am thinking about it. But this is my dd and I dont have the time to sas it. Plus I have too much money in my long travel to just scrap it
